With more and more scandals, corruption of government officials nowadays, there are many arguements about what government officials should do in their work when they have to face a  choose. someone insist that  government officials should rely on their own judgement rather than unquestioningly carring out the will of the people, I tend to disagree with this viewpoint, although it seems our people to be blind sometimes, but it is government officials basic duty to carrying our the will of people whom they serve.
It is the basic duty for government offficials to carry out the will of the people who they serve. In the first place we should make clear the definition of government official and their basic duty. I think government officials have to basic duties, on the one hand to maintain the stability and function of the whole nation, but on the other hand, is to serve for the citizens of their nation. It is especially true when it comes to highly developed nations, in U.S., the citizens vote the president, in order to fulfill their own benefits, the one who obey the will of the people he serves would quickly forfeit his position, under this condition, it is impossible for our government official not to carrying out the will of the people whome they serve.
But sometimes, or even most of time, people seems to lack a clear will or correct will, in this situation, what our officials should do is to rely on their own judgement. Nowadays, there are so many medium are influencing the will of our people, you can scan the news in the Internet, thousands of hundreds of treaties, but as a cultivated man, do you know which news is true, but another one is false, noone knows. The news in the television, the radio, and the hearsay, and even the deduces, all these make our people be obscure, even themselves sometime don't know what their exact will are. Under this condition, if the government official want to carrying out the will of the people, the consequence is that himself  would be confused with what he should do, and the whole nation may become unstable; so our official should do their work according to their correct judgement to save the whole nation.

But when it comes to situations that people know exactly about what their own wills are, and these wills are correct, the government officials should do their work according to people's will. Most of time, people would have their exact will in their daily lives, just like in current China,  the will of people there is just to maintain the peaceful status of the whole nation, to develop the economy and make the resurgence of the whole nation. Maybe there are some people have other wills just like to get their own wealth, but all that are just personal affairs, it has no matter with the development of the whole nation. So under this condition, what government official should do is just to do everything according to the main will of people, then they will be greatly espoused, and maintain theire own position.
In sum, I think sometime government officials should rely on their own judgement if people they serve don't exactly know what their wills are, but on the other times they should carry out the will of the people if these people know exactly what they want and need. For it's the one of the basic duties for government officials to carry our the will of the people whome they serve, although they seems to be irregular and unclear about their extact wills are.
