"Government should place few, if any, restrictions on scientific research and development."
Text body:
The speaker asserts that placing fewer restrictions on scientific research and development, the better. According to this issue, we can acquire that the current the situation is that our government have placed too much limitations on those researches and developments. While, I strongly agree with the speaker and recommend our government should place fewer restrictions on them in the future. Here are several reasons why I agree the statement.
First and foremost, in determining whether to place restrictions on scientific research and development, governors should of course consider the advantages and disadvantages which will be caused. The powers which motivate our society better and better are brought by our scientific researches and developments, and actually, the facts we witnessed these years are the best evidence to prove the very point. Take our transportation for example, many years ago; the simplest travelling method is by riding horses, while with the accelerating of technology advancement, the common means people prefer to choose are planes and express trains. Not only they can save us a lot of precious time, the more important is, it can reduce tiredness people feel during the travel. However, people are more likely to find the positive influence which scientific research and development brought to, in which case they are easily forgotten those negative effects that scientific research and development was caused. Without any limitation for scientific research and development, researchers and administrators may just care about their own achievements; even they do not realize their behaviors have a true impact on the environment pollution, such as waste water emitted from factories, air pollution, and so on. By putting much attention on these environmental issues, our governors will take the problems seriously.
Secondly, placing more restrictions on scientific research and development, this measure may interfere with the development of science and creation of the technology. Lacking of the power which comes from the science and invention, our society may have to struggle in the deep abysm. At a community level, more restrictions means much more barriers they should to overcome, society’s development cannot live without creation.
On the other hand, without the rein of government, the science will drift. While every argument of our capacity on realizing our desire, therefore the argument of our capability of evil, if the desire is not wise, for example, so need restrict. The duty for government is to execute the right of supervision when they find the development and research are conflicted with people’s basic rights, such as clone of human, euthanasia, and so forth. Our government should forbid this kind of research in the long run. Albeit the technology of cloning is a significant contribution in the realm of bioscience, but if we really clone someone, it violates the human ethic, which is unbearable for each one of us.
In sum, synthesize all the aspects I have mentioned above, we may safely draw a conclusion that whether to place few restrictions on scientific research and development should depend on many factors. We should be aware that what advantages and disadvantages they may bring to us; at the same time we should take these issues in the long run, in a more comprehensive way to treat it. Eventually, our government can make a appropriate choice for everyone. |
