38. In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.
While television has become part of today’s life and we can learn more and more by watching television, it cannot take the important place of reading books. After all, books, have their own magic which is so different from watching televison and benefit mankind by conveying abundance of knowledge and information.
I concede that television spreads knowledge in a popular and effective way, providing its audience at the same time pictures and sounds, and even a feast for the eyes. That is making full use of the multimedia in order to present as much information as it can, also, to be attractive to those who are impatient to learn something by reading books. And that’s also the reason why it has become popular all over the world, thus to transmis a varity of knowledge and information to a wider extent as an easy approach.
Television has a dual character-good as well as bad considering its founction to transmis knowledge and information. Exaggerated visual style and virtual reality image can mislead the audience by giving contorted messages. People cannot learn as precisely by watching television as they can by reading books. What’s more, on-screen violence of Kung Fu as well as gunplays is one of the main reasons leading to youth violence. Further more, TV sometimes prevents one form his or her job, taking up time which should have been devoted to learning something much more significant and practical.
On the other hand, watching television alone cannot satisfy people’s need for all kinds of knowledge and information, so that books are still needed in this age. Some thing is to digest, not to watch only once, especially some profound thinking, what distinguishes between television and books-Traditional media like books have their great achievement lie in quite a lot of space they leave for people to imagine; Programs on telesion are on the opposite, going on the air one after another during only a short period. As a consequence, one may develop a illusion that he or she has already gained a good knowledge of what was showed on televison just now, which, however, is not always the case. In sum, books are still of great significant when they carry the information or emotions witch are so profound that need to be savored twice before accepted. A persuasive exemple is the popular series of Harry Portter, which, after first adapted into film, were less welcomed by many of the children readers who considered it to be a little too scary and lact fantatacy in comparision with the books. This clearly illustrate the importance and advantages of books which cannot be replaced by television.
In the conclusion, watching television seems to be a indispensable means for most people to learn about what is happening all over the world and to keep track of the latest development in every field, as the so-called age of television. However, reading books will be as important as it once was and now is, until on day in the future when television become portable and can be “read” like a real book.
51.Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.
506words
When education is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, it indeed satisfies every one’s need and arouses student’s interest. Otherwise, in my view, such a kind of education is not comprehensive at all and is difficult to go into effect, instead of being truly effective.
As a gentle and flexible way of education, specifically designed education is close to human nature. There is an infinite diversity in human character, so, in order to build students’ self-identity and help them to confirm what they can do for themselves as well as their society, it not only excite students to discover and then develop their interest but also encourage them to continue their efforts. In sum, it is tightly associated with the students themselves so that is a ideal humanizing education.
On the other hand, if education is designed only according to student’s figure, it will lost the significance as a proper guidance in the duration when students grow up. Unlike the education of unify planning, which concentrate efforts on a central aim, specifically designed education dose not have a defined objective or principle to follow. What’s more, even students themselves may be not clear about what they need or what they are interested in, for the reason that they may never have received any general education. In short, it is possible that specifically designed education finally end up in a disorder and confusing situation.
On the other hand, to meet the individual needs and interests of each student is impractical and not effective at the same time. It calls for great effort and a long period to know the individual needs and interests of each student and keep track of them. This distracts the educators from their work of improving the quality of education. What’s more, they need to pay much more attention to adjust their teaching plan. As an onerous duty, it may in turn lower the the quality of instruction. When it comes down to it, the expectation of a truly effective education are not fulfilled.
As an officer from Educational Commission of my country once said(and I paraphrase),”We need to give consideration to both the individual and all the students, the interest of each one as well as the interest of the whole. When there is conflict between individual needs and all students’ interests, we take measures to mediate it, but not deny the existed educational system as a whole and then rush to one extreme. This is something that the Educational Commission of our country is doing.”
In conclusion, while specifically designed education is adcanced in aspects of humanization and leave students plenty of leeway, it fails to be practical and effective. After all, meeting the individual needs and interests of each student is too great a price to pay. Also, it’s effectiveness cannot be promised in current situation. So it cannot yet be deduced that education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.
