8. "It is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public."


I agree with the speaker that sometimes it is necessary, even desirable, to withhold some important information for the political leaders from the public. Admittedly, some army information, that of science and politic and the like are critic the safety of country of some areas. Nevertheless, we should not extend it to all the aspects, such as the agenda of counties event and the fee that are allocate, which the public have the right to know.

One reason I support the idea is that some military information, that is top secret, can not be addressed to the ordinary people. With the public knowing the information, the other country, especially who abhor our home country, will also get the information, which puts the country in danger. Hence, in this part I strongly support the speaker's addressing.

Secondly, it refers to the science, as important as the military information. Always the scientists try their best to invent something or theory, even some arms, if it is revealed to the public before finished, the efforts may be wasted. Furthermore, for such inspects, the public can do nothing helpful to them.

Then the last supporting reason is about the political leader himself. As we all know, everyone can not be perfect including the leader. Some scandals of the leader sometimes are hidden to protect the leader from being attacked even about some unnecessary information of the family life, which the opposition party or individuals would do gladly, who deliberately dig all the scandals of the leader. So it is not so critical for political leader to withhold some personal information.

However we shouldn’t extend this board assertion to embrace all the government's information. As a citizen, we have the right to know the agenda of our country. As a taxpayer, we should know how the tax is allocated. What's more, when the government is lack of money to conduct a project important for the country, we can donate money or buy the state-bill to support the government and when there is an disaster, we also can collect all the ideas and money or property to help the poor or the victims if necessary.

In sum, whether we should know specific information depends on the safety and strategy of the government or individuals. Therefore it is significant to withhold some special information from the public, which is critic to the country, while not harmful to the public.
