41.The following appeared in a memo from the vice president of a food-distribution company with food-storage warehouses in several cities.

"Recently we signed a contract with The Fly-Away Pest-Control Company to provide pest-control services at our fast-food warehouse in Palm City, but last month we discovered that over $20,000 worth of food there had been destroyed by pest damage. Meanwhile, the Buzzoff Pest-Control Company, which we have used for many years, continued to service our warehouse in Wintervale, and last month only $10,000 worth of the food stored there had been destroyed by pest damage. Even though the price charged by Fly-Away Is considerably lower, our best means of saving money is to return to Buzzoff Company for all our pest-control services."



The author claims that restating Buzzoff Company is the best way to save money. To support this claim he relies on the fact that over $20,000 worth of food in the warehouse of Palm City which is serviced by a new cooperator, The Fly-Away Pest-Control Company, was destroyed, while in another fact provided by the author that the worth of food destroyed in Wintervale which is serviced by Buzzoff Company, they have been used many years ,was only $10,000. careful scrutiny of facts,however, reveals that little credible support to the author’s claim.

First of all, the author dose not provide any evidence that the ability of Buzzoff Company is better than The Fly-Away Pest-Control Company. There are no comparision of two companies’ service to inform me that the
Buzzoff Company utilize more advanced technological skills to eliminate pest and have more efficient group to act more effective work. Without presenting these evidence ,the author cannot convince me that Buzzoff Company act better than The Fly-Away Pest-Control Company.

Secondly, nor does the mere facts that the warehouse governed by Buzzoff Company had less loss than the counterpart controlled by The Fly-Away Pest-Control Company lend significant support to the fact that Buzzoff Company is more effective. The situation of two warehouses in two different places maybe totally different that the pest in Palm City is significantly more than it does in Wintervale. And it is entirely possible that when Buzzoff Company was responsible for the warehouse in Wintervale , the situation was much poorer than it dose currently. Without better evidence, the author remain unconvincing to support that Buzzoff Company provide better service

Finally, the author claims returning to Buzzoff Company is the best meaning of saving money ,while he just refered to the high price the company charged. If the price charge by Buzzoff Company is much higher than its counterpart of The Fly-Away Pest-Control Company, even exceeding the value of it working ,it was not economical in this point . Moreover, there are still other companies provided same services which may charge less and act better. Hence, without providing these information, the author cannot convince me that restating the Buzzoff Company is most economical.

In sum, the claim is not well supported .To convince me ,the author should provide the information about both companies’ performance and the clearly data about two different warehouse. Information of other similar companies in market is also required. Only after comparing all of these, could the author conclude the right conclusion.
