When in troubles or in doubts, people usually turn others for advice. Some prefer to get suggestions from older people for(for+句子表示为了的目的,不能代替because) they are more experienced, while others tend to ask their peers for advice for they are in the situations.(什么意思?) Sometimes, the advice from older friends is more valuable. As a well-known saying goes, “wisdom comes with age”. Older friends do experience more than us, and their success and failure accumulates into a precious wisdom.(这句不错) So their advice can give us good reference and guidance. For example, now I am considering about studying in graduate school in America, and my older friends who have already studying in America or have finished graduate school can give me some very helpful advice. However, my peer friends who have never applied for a gradate school in America or who are now applying cannot give me such valuable advice. In other situations, peers’ advice can be more useful and helpful because they understand our problems better. As the fast changing of our societies and lives, generation gaps can easily appear between the old and the youth, even if there is only a few years’ difference. So sometimes older people find it difficult to comprehend the world of the youth, and we sometimes complain that their advice is outdated. So at this time, peer friends, people of our age and with similar thought, can provide more valuable advice. For example, women prefer to get opinions on clothes and cosmetics from girls of their ages instead of older friends or parents; men incline to find their peer fiends’ advice on digital equipment or sports more useful. This is because people of the same ages usually share the same taste and culture. In short, the value of advice from our peer friends outweighs that from older friends sometimes. ) b% Y2 m$ ~9 }! 非常不错,发现你的两个观点跟我一样,但比我写的好,借鉴了~

辛苦批改的同学了,请多指正。

Many teachers assign homework to students every day. Do you think that daily homework is necessary for students? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

Generally speaking, the objective of homework is to help students increase knowledge and improve abilities. While opponents of homework criticize the negative effects of homework, they are mainly focus on some inappropriate assigned homework. In my view, I agree that daily homework is necessary for students if only they are proper forms.

To begin with, homework can help students review and reinforce what they have learned from school. It is well known that “practice makes perfect”. Homework may seem to be rote or grind work, because it makes students do some repeated work. However, it is just in such process that students digest and master what they have learned at school. Furthermore, homework can assist students extend their knowledge by letting them apply it to new situations. For example, by doing the homework of planting and observing flowers personally, students can better understand what they learned from botany class. Also, reviewing homework can prepare students for examinations, and previewing homework can get them ready for upcoming lessons. In brief, homework can actually bring students lots of benefits.

Besides, homework is a good feedback of the students’ learning conditions to their teachers and parents. From homework teachers and parents can find out the deficiencies of knowledge in some students. For instance, after giving a quite difficult lesson, a teacher can hardly know whether the students have understood and mastered the lesson if he/she does not assign homework to students. It is highly possible that majority of the class are confused while the teacher starts moving to next chapter. So had the teacher assigned homework on that lesson to students, he/she would spend more time to elaborate the difficult point. And it is the same with parents. If children have problems with their homework, parents can timely offer them a hand. In short, homework is also necessary to teachers and parents to help students learn well.

Additionally, teachers should pay attention to the amount and forms of homework to improve its effect and avoid its negativities. The critique of homework mainly comes from some badly designed homework. I admit that such rigid homework is of little value and even bad to children’ growing. However, homework nowadays is designed to be beneficial. On one hand, teachers should assign the amount of homework according to different students. For example, first grade students may have little concentration ability, so they should not be given more than 30 minutes of homework. On the other hand, the form of homework can be various and creative. It should not be limited to paper work or exercises. Different forms like field survey and social practice can motivate students’ interests and better integrate and improve their skills.

In conclusion, homework is of great importance and necessities to students. And teachers should carefully design it to be interesting, helpful, and meaningful.

0909综合写作

The reading material states three commonly accepted theories explaining birds' navigating ability. In the lecture, however, the professor does not agree that the three theories can fully account for the phenomenon.

Firstly, the theory that birds navigate by the sun or the star is not persuasive enough. Many birds flying at night have no difficulty finding their ways. So it is not necessary for them to navigate by using the sun. Also, the professor mentions that scientists have known only one species of bird using the star as navigation. And we still do not know whether other bird species navigate by the star or not. So this contradicts with the first theory in the reading.

Secondly, the landmark theory cannot explain why some birds can find their way home when put into totally strange environment. Birds using landmark to find ways must have made the journey before, and then they can navigate by experience from previous journey. However, birds can also find ways back from places they have never been to before. So this fact casts doubt on the second theory.

Thirdly, while the professor admits that birds do navigate by sensing the earth's magnetic field, it has great limitation. By sensing the earth's magnetic field, birds can only tell the north and the south. It is not enough for birds to find specific destinations. But the truth is birds can fly to particular places that are hiding in confusing surroundings.
So it means that bird rely on more than the earth's magnetic field.

In conclusion, in the lecture the professor challenges the three theories in the reading, which explain the birds' ability to navigate.

0910 交通繁忙时候该不该课税

The sharply increasing of personal vehicles makes the transportation in many cities very busy, especially during the rush hours. So it has brought a lot of troubles to citizens as well as the government. Some propose that drivers should pay a certain amount of fees so that they can be permitted to drive out in traffic busy time. In my opinion, I do not think it can be an effective way to solve traffic problems. To fully release the heavy traffic, we should take other methods.

To begin with, charging drivers of fees or taxes cannot effectively reduce the amount of traffic at rush hours. Traffic busy time is usually hours when people go to or back from work. Many of them just need to drive at that time. If the fees or taxes are set quite low, it will not influence people who can afford a car. So these people will continue to drive to work. If the fees are very high, a lot of people will choose to take public transportations. Supporters of this method may claim that this is just the effect they want. However, they have not deliberated it further. It will in turn make the public transportations very crowded and busy. So after careful analysis of this policy, I find it little help to achieve its goal.

Besides, this policy may lead to potential problems to society. Some drivers may be rich enough to afford these extra fees, while other drivers may regard it as a huge burden. However, no matter whether different drivers can afford it or not, they all have similar reasons to drive cars. That is to go to work, send their children to school, and so on. So the policy is unfair to drivers. And those who cannot pay the fee will certainly complain. If the complains accumulate into anger, it will definitely compromise the stability of the society.

To truly and entirely solve the traffic problems, the government should take other methods. And it is the fact that many cities have adopted other effective ways to solve the traffic problems. For example, constrains the vehicles according to the final number of the vehicles is a fair and widely accepted method. For another example, government can encourage people who use public transportation with allowance. But to fully solve the traffic problems should depend on the development of the city's transportation systems. For instance, scientifically organizing and regulating the streets and subways is very important.

In conclusion, imposing fees or taxes in traffic busy time is not an effective and sound method to solve the heavy traffic dilemma in cities. We should address the root causes of such problems and find the method that can eliminate the problem entirely.
