Friends are people who like us in spite of our faults and who listen to us and tell us the truth. So in my opinion, I strongly maintain that we should point out a friend’s shortcomings and help him/her prevent from making mistakes(prevent xxx from doing sth).

To begin with, it violates the principles of real friendship that knowing a friend is going to do something wrong without reminding him/her. It is said that whenever you need to hear the bitter truth about yourself, go to your real friend. Real friends will never lie to you, (or,加个连词) just to please you and win your favors. So to be a true friend we should timely tell a friend when he/she is wrong. Although our actions or words may be harsh, they are really needed and helpful. Besides, just think it over, we certainly hope our friends be honest with us, and correct us when we are at fault. After all, being foolish in front of one or two friends is so much better than being laughed at by a crowd. In brief, holding back opinions about our friends’ shortcomings never makes us a real friend.

这段论证的很清楚

In addition, the results of non-interference may(还是用个肯定语气的词汇比较好) be more serious than telling the truth. On one hand, seeing our friend (see sb to do sth)suffer from his/her own mistake, we may feel guilty and remorse. On the other hand, our friends may blame us for not correct them before they make mistakes. Here is an example of my own. At the end of last quarter my friend Sue was too busy to cope with her anthropology paper. So she just downloaded a paper and did little change. I was her study partner and found out about it, but I did not dissuade her from handing that copied paper for I thought she might be unhappy. However, when she was finally caught and seriously punished, I was and still feel regret that I did not stop her and let her almost ruin her reputation. In a word, comparing to the worse results of standing by, it is better for us to do or say something before our friends make unredeemable mistakes.

这个感觉和上面的观点有些重复,都说作为一个朋友,为朋友着想应该告诉他们错误。其实这段可以归入上段:作为真正的朋友,应该指出他们的错误,因为不指出错误是危险的。

Furthermore, it is possible for us to be candid with our friends while not harming the friendship. We can use some strategies to help us be a helpful and welcome friend. For example, we can speak or do things with the intent of caring for our friends, not in a way that hurts them or brings them down. Just remember not to be rude and degrading, and put on a “sugar coat” for our rough but helpful advice. Another way is to be willing to listen and help our friends. It is unwise to point our friends’ flaws and then walk away, leaving them alone in trouble. Our friends may have some feedback or need further help regarding what we have said or done. In short, following such methods we can actually strengthen our friendship while being honest to our friends.

To sum up, I can hardly agree that we can sacrifice the integrity and essence of friendship in the name of protecting the friendship. In the long run, frankness and openness is the key to a healthy friendship, while insincerity and “white” lies are the deal breakers.

用词都很好,少有语法错误。句子多样性。
前两个论点有些重复。不知30分钟能否写出3个论点。如果时间不足的话,其实写两个也挺好的。

The reading passage raises new explanation about the 1908 Tunguska explosion; however, in the lecture the professor finds the supporting argumentations of the new explanation unconvincing.

Firstly, the absent of asteroid fragments dose not mean that the impact never happened. Because the impact happened almost ninety years ago, any traces can be destroyed by natural forces. Contrarily, scientists went to Canada to search for asteroid crack traces just two weeks after the explosion, so certainly some traces had be left.

Secondly, the fact that no crater exists does not disapprove that the explosion did not happen. It is possible that the explosion took place in a low atmosphere, and the asteroid had exploded into a fire ball when hitting the ground. Then the asteroid did not crack the Earth as an intact rock. So a huge crater is not a necessary evidence to prove the existence of the explosion.

Thirdly, the trees pattern after the explosion actually shows a single center distribution. Then explosion traces are concentrated on one spot. If it was caused by a "swamp gas" blast, it cannot form such a pattern.

In conclusion, the professor casts several doubts on the "swamp gas" explosion explanation, and defends the asteroid explosion theory about the 1908 Tunguska explosion.

The reading passage raises new explanation about the 1908 Tunguska explosion; however, in the lecture the professor finds the supporting argumentations of the new explanation unconvincing.整片都很简洁句子也很干练的.喜欢啊

Firstly, the absent of asteroid fragments dose not mean that the impact never happened. Because the impact happened almost ninety years ago, any traces can be destroyed by natural forces. Contrarily, scientists went to Canada to search for asteroid crack traces just two weeks after the explosion, so certainly some traces had be left 这么2句子就都概括了, 我也想写CANADA的但是都已经好几句了就没写

ly, the fact that no crater exists does not disapprove that the explosion did not happen. The reading passage raises new explanation about the 1908 Tunguska explosion; however, in the lecture the professor finds the supporting argumentations of the new explanation unconvincing.well done

Firstly, the absent of asteroid fragments dose not mean that the impact never happened. Because the impact happened almost ninety19 years ago, any traces can be destroyed by natural forces. Contrarily, scientists went to Canada to search for asteroid crack traces just two weeks after the explosion, so certainly some traces had be left.反驳时说是professor说的,Canada的例子是在passage中提的,这些出处我想最好提下,点对点的死磕,赫赫,最后来个总结句

Secondly, the fact that no crater exists does not disapprove that the explosion did not happen(这句话里n个not,有点混乱,这句话不对,the fact approve that the explosion did not happen,反了). It is possible that the explosion took place in a low atmosphere, and the asteroid had exploded into a fire ball when(before) hitting the ground. Then the asteroid did not crack (使破裂,不对,改为collide with)the Earth as an intact rock. So a huge crater is not a necessary evidence to prove the existence of the explosion.% |* ]. b8 Z3 Z4 I1 e

0829 独立写作
有些语句从以前写过的一篇关于plan套用,谢谢点评!

8.29 Do you agree or disagree: As modern life become more complex, it is essential for young people to have the ability to plan and organize.

As the fast rolling wheels of the modern world, people, especially the youth, are facing more choices and required to deal with complex and multiple tasks. So in my view, without a strong ability the plan and organize, young people can hardly make through their study, let alone succeed in the future.

First of all, good planning and organizing ability can improve productivity and efficiency. On one hand, planning is leveraged time. A few minutes plan before starting a day’s study or work can help us reduce aimless and meaningless actions. On the other hand, working systematically and putting things orderly can prevent us from fall into a mass while facing tremendous tasks or choices. Here is an example of my own. I always run into a busy and rushing time at the end of a term. I seem to have numerous examinations to take, papers to write, and researches to finish. It is easy to get lost and end with nothing. However, I have learned plan strategically and organize methodically. I would establish a “to do” list according to priorities of things and tick off items as I move forward. It help me survive and success in such a complicated time. In short, careful and effective planning and organizing will have a huge impact on us young people’s lives.

Secondly, to plan and organize ahead help us reduce crisis in our actions. In a modern society where everyone seems to live on the go, things can easily go out of orders and routines.
However, if we deliberate the possible difficulties and be well organized to respond, we can be prepared and confident. For instance, students at university are often assigned to finish a synthetic and complex project instead of simple homework. When doing the project, students will certainly come across many problems and situations that require immediate reactions, such as sudden shortening or deadline. Also, to accomplish a complex project they need to take many factors into consideration and coordinate the speed of separate part. So the ability of well organized is requisite. In a word, to plan and organize well ensure us to keep clear mind and calm thought through different and convoluted environment.

Finally, we can overcome our bad habits and fulfill our goals if being well planned and organized. In a world like a kaleidoscope, young people can easily lose themselves. Some may not be able to achieve their goals; those worse may even go astray into wrong road. For example, when searching information for papers on the Internet, some teenagers may be attracted by other irrelevant information and surf around the net without really accomplishing anything. However, if they have established a plan to stick to and organize each step to follow the plan, they can focus on their mission and are less likely to fail. In brief, effective planning and organizing will have a great impact on breaking bad habits and lead to successful accomplishment.

To sum up, as the modern life is getting more and more complex, the ability to plan and organize helps people a lot. And us the young people, with our dream to be realized and goals to be conquered, such ability is undoubtedly a sharp and powerful weapon we must be armed with.

0831 综合写作 5

In the reading material, some scientists cast doubts on prescribed burning as a method to fight forest fire. However, in the lecture the professor thinks their argumentations invalid, and he claims three points to support the effect and advantages of prescribed burning.

Firstly, prescribed burning can bring a lot of benefits. Prescribed fire can burn out logs and leaves into ashes, reducing the hazard of a forest fire. Also, the burning ashes can provide nutrient to the plants in forests. Besides, it can thin the forest leaves and permit more sunlight pass through, which is healthy to the growth of trees. Disking alone, which is recommended in the reading, cannot achieve.

Secondly, prescribed fire has been employed for a long time and proved to be quite safe. So it is actually not that dangerous and unpredictable as the reading material indicates. People conducting prescribe fire are all specialists who have been well trained. So the prescribed fire can achieve the safety and ecological goals successfully.

Thirdly, the cost of prescribed burning is actually quite small. To fight with a wild forest fire can cost ten times more than prescribe fire, let alone the damages to homes and families. So after comparison the professor concludes that the prescribe fire is actually economic and also effective.
This contradicts with the unaffordable cost of prescribed fire asserted in the reading.

In sum, in the lecture the professor challenges the three points against the prescribed fire. And he uses his point to justify the practice of prescribed fire.

Do you agree or disagree: Most people prefer others making decision for them than making a decision for themselves.

Each decision we make, each action we take, is born out of an intention. Decisive and independent people may insist to make every decision themselves. Other people may care less about some non-principled choices and leave the decision to others. However, generally speaking, I believe that most people prefer to control the wheel of their own lives and make the vital and important decisions by themselves.

Admittedly, some people seem to care little about their daily choices and always answer with “whatever”, leaving their own decisions to make by others. However, for daily trivia like bread or cake for breakfast, comedy or serious movie to watch, and Italian or Chinese restaurant for diner, people’s answers may differ because of their personalities and interests. To decide a certain movie or to answer “whatever” actually make no difference. So here we are going to discuss some major and significant decisions people make in their life. As to this kind of decision, I deeply believe that people prefer to make their own decisions and control their own lives.

The reason why we prefer to make significant decisions for ourselves is that no one knows better about us than ourselves. As we are all concerned, decisions should be made according to personal willingness and preference. For example, when I was considering my future major in university, I received a lot of helping advice from parents, friends, and relatives. In parents’ eyes, they would like me to study law or business which might be good for my future career. In teachers’ eyes, they thought mathematics might suit me for I was good at mathematics. As to my friends’ opinion, they deemed that I would surely study animation for I was such an animation fan. In a bunch of people who seemed eagerly to make decisions for me, they all got something right about me in some aspects, but none of them saw an entire me. So I calmed down and thought what I really would like to become in the future. And I finally chose my own major. In a word, letting others to make vital decisions for us is always not a wise choice.

Sometimes, what people need is actually not a final decision, but useful and help suggestions and information from others. Occasionally, some people may find themselves lost in various available choices and then turn to others. At this time what they need is not a final call by others, but more advice and analysis. Life isn't always a smooth sailing, and everyone experiences up and down. So it is understandable and acceptable that some people may ever get confused. But it does not mean that people are willing to directly hand over the right of decision to others. People can turn to family members, friends, and teachers for suggestions; however, they are actually spending time on thinking. In short, some people’s seemingly searching for help is actually looking for suggestions instead of the decisions by others.

To sum up, people may pay little attention to trivial decisions in mundane chores, but they actually prefer to make the most suitable significant decisions for themselves. So they hardly prefer to hand the steering wheel of our life ship to other people, because in their deep heart they know that they are the captain.

However, generally speaking, I believe that most people prefer to control the wheel of their own lives and make the vital and important个人认为用一个就好decisions by themselves.开头简洁明了

ittedly, some people seem to care little about their daily choices and always answer with “whatever”, leaving their own decisions to make by others. 这段写的很抽象的

The reason why we prefer to make significant decisions for ourselves is that no one knows better about us than ourselves. As we are all concerned, decisions should be made according to personal willingness and preference. For example, when I was considering my future major in university, I received a lot of helping advice from parents, friends, and relatives. In parents’ eyes,貌似有点中国式from parents' views they would like me to study law or business which might be good for my future career. In a word, letting others to make vital decisions for us is always not--is not always a wise choice.

In short, some people’s seemingly searching for help is actually looking for suggestions instead of the decisions by others 这段有的地方意思是别人不会在意或者愿意给他人的意见, 开头貌似也透露这样的信息. 我想问是主动寻求意见的, 不是等着

To sum up, people may pay little attention to trivial decisions in mundane chores, but they actually prefer to make the most suitable significant decisions for themselves. So they hardly prefer to hand the steering wheel of our life ship to other people, because in their deep heart they know that they are the captain.

When in troubles or in doubts, people usually turn others for advice. Some prefer to get suggestions from older people for they are more experienced, while others tend to ask their peers for advice for they are in the situations. So it is quite arbitrary to decide whose advice is more valuable—the old people or our peers. And I think in different conditions we have various answers.

Sometimes, the advice from older friends is more valuable. As a well-known saying goes, “wisdom comes with age”. Older friends do experience more than us, and their success and failure accumulates into a precious wisdom. So their advice can give us good reference and guidance. For example, now I am considering about studying in graduate school in America, and my older friends who have already studying in America or have finished graduate school can give me some very helpful advice. They offer me detailed information about the applying process, tips and skills, life and study aboard, and so on. However, my peer friends who have never applied for a gradate school in America or who are now applying cannot give me such valuable advice. In brief, when we need advice on things that we have never tried before, the guidance from older friends is much more beneficial and advantageous.

In other situations, peers’ advice can be more useful and helpful because they understand our problems better. As the fast changing of our societies and lives, generation gaps can easily appear between the old and the youth, even if there is only a few years’ difference. So sometimes older people find it difficult to comprehend the world of the youth, and we sometimes complain that their advice is outdated. So at this time, peer friends, people of our age and with similar thought, can provide more valuable advice. For example, women prefer to get opinions on clothes and cosmetics from girls of their ages instead of older friends or parents; men incline to find their peer fiends’ advice on digital equipment or sports more useful. This is because people of the same ages usually share the same taste and culture. In short, the value of advice from our peer friends outweighs that from older friends sometimes.

In conclusion, diverse problems require corresponding solutions. We should search for help from those who can mostly help solve our dilemma. So the suggestions from older friends and peer friends have different advantages. While it is hard to judge which one is more valuable, they are both necessary.
