109. "The purpose of many advertisements is to make consumers want to buy a product so that they will 'be like' the person in the ad. This practice is effective because it not only sells products but also helps people feel better about themselves."
We human beings have been forced to watching advertisements unconsciously all the time in our daily life. Some advertisements are so inspirable that they are able to make the audiences trust that if people choose the product, they will be similar with the person who shows the product in the advertisement. So someone agrees that this practice which makes the people feel they will 'be like' the person in the ad is really effective, for it is good for both the sellers and the buyers. However, I could not agree with this idea, because this kind of advertisements always send a wrong message to people which may hurt both of the customers and the producers.
Apparently, in order to increase the profit, the producers have to advertise their product so that more people could know it and pay money for it. And people will surely be influenced by the advertisements on TV and buy those products whose advertisement make them feel better. Sometimes the sellers are so eager to sell their product that they may hire some perfect people, a super model for example, to stand for their products. And the consumers may believe that the person on screen has used the product and it really works. As a result, they may purchase the very product looking forward they will be like the super model. For example, many girls are crazy about body shaping, they are willing to do anything only to lose one pound. And these days, the advertisement of 'HOT HOT HOT' which is a medicine to lose weight absorb the attendance of many girls and housewives. Because of the advertisement of a beautiful hot girl lying on the golden beach saying" Wanna be hot like me? Wanna attract hot guys like those? Wanna be bask in the sun on beach with proud of your body? Take 'HOT HOT HOT' like me!" Of course, the ad works well and bring the producer tremendous money, whereas nobody cares about the effect on the consumers except themselves. The media reported that many consumers of the 'HOT HOT HOT' feel sick after using it whereas the weight never decrease. We know that things always happen like this, but sometimes we just tolerate with it and forget it. Most time this kind of advertisement only gives the consumers a daydream and only hurt them. So nobody could say that this practice is effective and helpful for the consumers.
In conclusion, the advertisements that producers send to consumers should be not only deceive and fantastic but also real. It should never be only to make people feel better whereas the effect is really bad.
