The speaker asserts that all faculty in a college or university should work outside in professions connected with their courses  for some time in order to improve the quality of instruction. I fundamentally agree with this idea. The contrary view may reveal that as working time of a teacher is limited, working outside may be a waste of time.  As far as I am concerned, while the investigations in their courses and their teaching practice is the basic part of a teacher's work, outside working experience is also obligatory.  

I concede that the foundation of a teacher's work in college or university is teaching and research. After all, teaching all of the knowledge that he or she knows to their students is the social responsibility of a teacher in college or university that no other occupation can take place, and doing research can improve the knowledge and experience of the teachers themselves and the students for it refresh the recognition already known. However, all these work happened inside the campus is necessary but not sufficient.

To truly enrich their professional knowledge, it is necessary that all the faculty spend some time outside the academic world, especially for the teacher of the social science. After all, all theories which are not castles in the air should based on the practice. Only through working outside can they learn about the real requirement of the society and then establish the right and beneficial direction of their research and teaching practice. As a typical example, the teacher of administration should have some experience of management in the enterprise or public institution, at least be some basic leaders. A teacher without any working experience in the profession linked with his courses is only a armchair strategist that have no thing practical to teach his or her students but some boring theories of other people.

In addition, necessarily through working outside for some time can a teacher get access to some real and vivid experience which can abound the content of teaching and assist the students to achieve a comprehensive understanding of both the courses and the world. Take a look at the teacher of economics. I believe that no student want to learn only the theory of Adam Simth or the Keynesian economics from the class. They want to have an understanding of the financial affairs, even the sub-prime montage loan crisis, from the professional and practical perspective. At that time the working experience in a financial enterprise is not only useful but perfect. Maybe some one will say that the teacher can acquire the relevant information from the mass media. However, in this case, much useful details will be lost and an unilateral understanding is no better than none.

Overall, while undoubtedly research and teaching practice is the primary for a teacher,  in order to improve the quality of instruction, working outside in the associated profession is not only useful but also indispensable. Only through a combination of theory and practice can the student get the most effective teaching.

现在语言上都不知道怎么改的了,关键是结构吧,楼主的逻辑很分明,让步,正面(教师),正面(学生)。个人看了觉得就是论证加入了主观因素在里面,比如I believe这样的还是少用为好,其他都蛮不错的,值得学习~~
