TOPIC: ISSUE48 - "The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."


Somebody maintains that it is the groups of people spark the history in the most significant events and trends, rather than the famous few. In weighting up both the prospective and potential risks I side on the opposite and reckon that inevitable though the power of collective is, individual leaders with outstanding ability in guiding the evolution of history should be immortalized by the history itself.

Firstly , I concede that the collective ,who are not immortalize in history with even no people heard of their names, do exert unrelenting roles in driving the history ahead. Abrahum Lincoln, the 16th president of American, who instructed the War between States , emancipate the black people who are permitted to be owned by the white farm owners in the legislation of south America. The laws not only maintained the privileges of white people but also totally violated the human rights of black people. The Emancipation Proclamation of course free the black people ,
however, in return, the very groups of black people push the triumph of Civil War .Image there exists no the support from the black people ,who knows what a society will be present today.

Secondly, indispensable though the power of collective is, the glorious leadership of individuals may exert a more significant effect in the progress of history. The instance showed above can support this viewpoint at the same time. In addition, Roosevelt Franklin, the 32th president of America , who ran the president with a promise of new deal for the Americans. His administration was marked by relief programs, measures to improve employment and assist industrial and agricultural recovery from the Depression and World War two. His works were greatly appreciate by the public and become the only president to be reelected three times. The moment before his death, he is still working in his office.

Thirdly, in the myth of achievement there exist many individual who are famous, nothing about leadership but about persistency and faith. When Columbus claimed that the earth is round, he was laughed by the majority and it was the "fault "guided Columbus, with his persistency, to the wrong destination-the new world, which consider as a milestone in the history. Another example in point is Che Guavara, the moment before executed he said that he was thinking about the immortal of revolution. Admittedly he is a perfect leader, while his faith of revolution is the real reason why he is immortalized.

To sum up, history is consisted of both dramatic individuals and powerful groups of people. The groups of people push the advancing of history, while all these will not happen without the glorious leader guidance and persisted faith which should never be overlooked.
