       The speaker claims that the artists, rather than the critics, create something of lasting value for the society. In my opinion, I think the artists play a much more important role in creating works which have far-reaching influence on both art and social development, despite the critics could sometimes guide and inspire them.
       The first reason why I consider artists to be the most significant contributors in producing valuable things is that their works could reflect the social condition of that era in a more far-sighted view. Artist, who are highly creative and imaginative, can portray their lives and surroundings in a detailed but not complicated way. The great French writer, Victore Huge, is an appropriate example. In his novel, Les Miserables, he fully described how the upper class and the so-called moral notion damaged people's spirits, and deprived people's right of pursuing happiness and free using only the life experience of one man, no wonder when people wants to get to know that time, it usually serves as an essential reading material. In this aspect, we cannot deny the significance of the artists' works as historical records.
      The second reason is that their works could always win over the empathy of people in any time. Since artists have more delicate feelings, and can get inspiration from their ordinary life experience, their works are more likely to impress people and receive common appreciation. This is particularly true in music. Beethoven, as one of the most imminent musicians of any time, is famous for his fifth symphony, called Destiny. The marvellous work has encouraged people of every time to be tenacious and persistent, and is regarded as spiritual wealth of the human world. For this reason, the value of the artists' works also lies in gaining the recognition from people of all the time.
       The final but not the least important reason is that the artists' works can reflect the unremitting creativity of human being. For instance, in the long history of art, it has developed into several schools, including realism, modernism, impressionism and so on. The fact that painters of different schools could draw  distinct  paintings according to the same scene shows the amazing creativity and imagination that our human being hold. As the creativity and innovative spirit is always the most important impetus to the development, these works that shows the process in which we cultivate our potential and purse further creativity proves to be of lasting value.
      Nonetheless, the role of critic in helping produce these precious works cannot be ignored. As a matter of fact, critics are more objective than the artists themselves in evaluating the works, and are more professional than the ordinary people who are laymen of these profound fields. Thus they could better recognize both the merit and the shortcoming of works, and give guidance inspiring the artists to continue creating. Considering this, we cannot deny the significance of critics in assisting the process of creating valuable works.
    To sum up, I embrace the speaker's idea that it is the artist who produce things of lasting value for the whole society rather than the critic, since their works not only are the epitome of their time but also express the emotion of people of any time, and moreover record people's progress in cultivating their creativity. However, we cannot ignore the role of the critics, who help to inspire artist and give a objective assessment on artistic works.
