The speaker’ s viewpoint lays one-side emphasis on artist and neglect critic’ s significant influence to art. I concede that artist give society something of lasting value, but the critic that contribute a lot to promote these valuable art productions is also a indispensable element.

Artist have more extensive ,objective understanding of lives than ordinary. So when facing the society events , they can put forward some important problems. During their works, artist usually
Express a particular interpretation of the human society and research some common subjects that relate to aesthetic appreciation, struggling with tough lives and seeking for loves. Such great works as oil painting , marble figure, or magnificent architecture etc, are all invaluable for research, and also benefit to study of philosophy ,literature, aesthetics. For example, Mona Lisa ,accomplished by Da Vinci, is considered the greatest artistic of the Renaissance and attain the peak of art in that times. From then on, many European painters had been enlightened and created new excellent works, by which people’ s thoughts and visions of their lives and worlds are deepen and broaden. Even some conventions and principles formed due to influence of the great works accomplished by those artist. So there is no doubt to argue that artist and their productions leave us something of lasting value.

However, as being extraordinary in arts, their emotions expressed in works are sometimes so complex that couldn’t be accepted or comprehended by public. Their productions usually are abstract description of reality or contain much imagination .Some of them even appear crazy and fantastic judged by a ordinary person for the reason that they are not trained and are not on the same level with the artists. Van Gogh’ s life story was one of the examples to illustrate this point. He spend his lifetime to searching for beauty figures that be abstractly expressed in his paintings. Unfortunately, because of his wild emotions, Van Gogh was not understood by contemporaries, and none of his paintings could be sold out in his life. Without source of income, He had to continue drawing in starvation. To solve these above problems, Artist need a access to communicate with public.


Critics fitly play a role of bridge linking artists and public .As having a deep study of art ,critics can catch the essence of famous work that people can’t perceived, and they explain it to public in a pellucid way . By that, critics somewhat recreate the lasting value of art, and spread it over the society. This critic’ s function of explaining and digging out greatness in artist’ s works should not be neglected. In addition ,some critics is actually artist, concerning about others’ thought ,they can also put forward own viewpoint as a complement .So, it is unfairly to argue that critics fail to product something of lasting value for society

In sum ,the artist creates the masterpieces through his originality and uniqueness, which can convey the ideals, beliefs, and values to the society, respectively of the economical, social system. critics provide interpretation of art works to general public. Without them, masterpieces would not be as rich and great as they have been refined. They add to lasting value for the works of artists and they are a necessary part of the lasting value.
