"In the age of television, reading books are not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."

Nowadays, watching TV has become a very important things in peoples daily lives, more and more people choose to know the world and getting information by watching TV instead of reading books, so, the author state his point of view "reading books is not as important as it once was. people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books. " I believe however, television can not replace reading books as a way of learning in our period.

In the first place, reading books requires more attention from the individual person which is necessary for digestion and assimilation of knowledge. Books can provide the readers more huge room for thinking and imagining. Although TV gives us vivid images the influence of book is significant. There are many famous scholar had valued the importance of reading. Such as "The reading of all good books is like a conversation with the finest men of past centuries" by Descartes, whom sometimes be called the father of philosophy. Reading refine and hone the ability of thinking and choosing which lead people to become more brilliant. When you choose an appropriate book, by serious-minded reading, you can found a new world which you had never in from watching TV or other medium.

Secondly, What do you consider is the purpose of people to watch TV? Do they want to make some research just by watching TV? The answer is self-evidence, entertainment is the most important function of the television. As the programs inherently aim at profit, which should be satisfied with the entire audience that include parents but children, doctors but workers and also seekers for knowledge but lazybones. For the very common group, there must be corresponding programs. Thus ,cartoon, soap films and other programs which has less instructive meaning have became the main stream in ours TV era. Furthermore, Advertisements place an important position among programs. I do not mean there are no benefit of it but the high frequency really waste our precious time .

When with a cup of hot tea, in a soft sofa, keep yourself in your comfortable home, how can you take a serious attitude for researching? In addition, we can not ignore the mortal shortcoming of television. It is not convenient enough as a teaching material. People can outside taking a book but can not taking a television. The signal is another problem which can not be avoided. If without book, how people inhabit the regions where there are weak signal or even no signal to continue their study?

For hundreds of years, people learning buy reading and assimilation. In short, books are also plays its great role in the modern world even though people are impacted a lot by television. We should take account of both in considering the importance of both, one for the amusement and the other for the active involvement with thinking and action.
