Argument38
The argument above asserts that eating a substantial amount of Ichthaid can help to prevent colds, thus absenteeism will be reduced too. To support his viewpoint, the arguer pointed out that people in nearby East Meria who eats a lot of fish seldom visit doctor for colds, and Ichthaid which is derived from fish oil can have the same effect as fish. The argument which seems to be logical at first glance, contains several facets that are questionable.
A threshold problem of the argument is that whether people in nearby East Meria get less cold is due to eating more fish. First, visiting docter less does not equal to getting cold less. We can not rule out the possibility that because of some reasons such as the lake of mediscen sense or doctors, those residents often do not go to hospital even if they get a cold. Furthermore, even if people in nearby East Meria are not so easy caught by colds, it does not follow that it is the habit of eating more fish prevent them from colds. The arguer fails to consider and rule out other reasons while might contribute to the effect: For example, the climate of nearby East Meria might be warm all year long, or people might do much more sports than other places.
Even if we accept that eating fish can help people to have less chance to get a cold, it does not necessarily mean that using Ichthaid can substitute of eating fish. There are no evident indicate that the most effective chemicals is in fish oil rather than meat, bone or even blood of fish. If so, eating the Ichthaid which is derived from fish oil might be useless for colds, but a waste of money.
The last but not the least is that, even garant that the Ichthaid do have some effect of avoid cold, however, whether mereling eating such a supplement can reduce the absenteetism or not is open to doubt. As we all kown, those responsible people will still go for work and study, even if they are ill, while lazy people often find various execurise for their absenteeism, and to say they have a cold is one of the most common ones. Therefore, even the supplement, as the arguer asserted, could prevent people from cold, can do nothing to cure people’s indolence and irresponsibility.
In conclusion, based on an unsubstantial assumption and a hast generation, the argument has too many flaws to be persuadable. To make his suggestion more convincing, the arguer should provide more evidences which could have to prove the Ichthaid could help to avoid colds. Additionally, he should make a study to make it clear that it is colds rather than other reason cause the most of absenteeism.
