TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
The recent history of education witness a controversy over the ultimate goal of education, those who considered as idealist argued that education is for individual's sake and emphasize the motivation of personal interests and needs. While those who considered as realists put that education is for society's sake and focus on the social demands which may suppress individual characteristic to some extent. My own view diverges from both of the foregoing thought. I assert that a more rational education approach should tread its way between the idealists’ individualized teaching and the realists' generalized education. Construction of modern education system should take both micro and macro situation into consideration so as to accomplish a appropriate individual socialization.
I begin by recalling a famous saying that "interest is the best teacher"-a description of the significant role played by personal interests and needs in education. As is shown by social psychologists, one with positive attitudes toward a certain subject will behave in more concentration and higher efficiency. Moreover, despite the motivation brought by interests and personal needs, those so-called characteristic of success including ambition, persistence, courage, creativity, imagination and critical spirit may also engendered from individual preference. No one could seriously believe that the absence of interests leads to the achievement of Foucault who resisted to become a surgeon as his father's anticipation and chose to live as a non-traditional philosopher -absorbed in the experience of limit which lead to the extension of  the academic range and emphasis shifts to the little-mentioned subject: crime, prison, madness ,sexuality and punishment; the experience of limit also resulted in the abandonment of traditional love morality, despite of the risk engendered by homosexuality which consequently caused whose early death of AIDS. Foucault came up with his rand new theory of the history of sexuality on techniques of self and morality. Thus, education according with individuality contributes to develop student’s potential to the full.
Moreover, individual development in a macro situation contributes to cultural diversity and nourishment consistent with individual differences. The great harmony of international cultural is constructed by the overall efforts of each ethnic group for its own purpose and the consensus of other cultural groups’ contribution to men and women.
However, the interests and demand must be worthwhile to pursue, that is to say the personal goal must be rational and available. Individual behavior is embedded in the ongoing social environment. One should take two social constraints into consideration on action. As is shown in the rational choice theory, the first constraints is the “scarcity of resources” and the second is “the institutional constraints” .In other words, the two constraints adjust the personal goal of one individual according to the social condition. Those antisocial interests often illustrated as violent, disposition, criminal minds or even war hysteria is detrimental to the survival of society. The rising rate of juvenile crimes in the USA may in part because of the overemphasize on individualized education which suggests that some extent of constraints be put on individuality, for one should educated to be a social member but rather an atomized subject. One’s behavior considered to be rational when one makes a decision by combining one’s own rational choice with sociability, approval, status and power etc.
All in all, the true value of education is to cultivate individual to be the one he or she wants to be and meanwhile the role one plays is also according to other person’s anticipation. In short, education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student on the precondition that the personal demands is both rational and available.

The recent history of education witness a controversy over the ultimate goal of education, those who (are) considered as idealist argued that education is for individual's sake and emphasize(d) the motivation of personal interests and needs. While those who (are) considered as realists put that education is for society's sake and focus(ed) on the social demands which may suppress individual characteristic to some extent. My own view diverges from both of the foregoing thought. I assert that a more rational education approach should tread its way between the idealists’ individualized teaching and the realists' generalized education. Construction of modern education system should take both micro and macro situation into consideration so as to accomplish a (an) appropriate individual socialization.
I begin by recalling a famous saying (很好的引出主题句的方式,赞一个!)that "interest is the best teacher"-a description of the significant role played by personal interests and needs in education. As is shown by social psychologists, one with positive attitudes toward a certain subject will behave in (是否应该是with?) more concentration and higher efficiency. Moreover, despite the motivation brought by interests and personal needs, those so-called characteristic of success including ambition, persistence, courage, creativity, imagination and critical spirit may (be) also engendered from individual preference. Thus, education according with individuality contributes to develop student’s potential to the full
Moreover, individual development in a macro situation contributes to cultural diversity and nourishment consistent with individual differences. The great harmony of international cultural (culture?) is constructed by the overall efforts of each ethnic group for its own purpose and the consensus of other cultural groups’ contribution to men and women.
However, the interests and demand must be worthwhile to pursue, that is to say the personal goal must be rational and available (attainable?). Individual behavior is embedded in the ongoing social environment. One should take two social constraints into consideration on action (建议改为before he/she carries out an action,原句读起来似乎有一点点头重脚轻.) As is shown in the rational choice theory, the first constraints (constraint) is the “scarcity of resources” and the second is “the institutional constraints” .In other words, the two constraints adjust the personal goal of one individual according to the social condition. Those antisocial interests often illustrated as violent (violence?), disposition, criminal minds or even war hysteria is (are) detrimental to the survival of society (好句子). The rising rate of juvenile crimes in the USA may in part because of the overemphasize on individualized education which suggests that some extent of constraints be put on individuality, for one should educated to be a social member but rather an atomized subject. One’s behavior (is/will be) considered to be rational when one makes a decision by combining one’s own rational choice with sociability, approval, status and power etc.
