Rituals and ceremonies help define a culture. Without them, societies or groups of people have a diminished sense of who they are.
提纲:
1.宗教典礼是文化的部分,所以有利于定义文化
2.文化能帮助社会人群自我定位,但是没有宗教典礼,文化其他方面仍可发挥作用
I partly agree with the speaker's assertion that rituals and ceremonies help define a culture which helps define societies or groups of people themselves. However, because a culture involves many aspects ,besides rituals and ceremonies, societies or groups of people still maintain the sense of themselves.

Because rituals and ceremonies are parts of a countries’ culture, they reflect parts of the characteristics of the culture. For instance, the people go to church every weekend and take the 洗礼 for babies in the western countries. It is symbol for the Christianism. Also, Tibet people are famous for their pilgrimage. Similarly, the ceremonies also help to define a culture, take the spring festival in China and Christmas in the West for example. Rituals and ceremonies just like a mirror, by which we can know deeper about a culture.

Although culture then help to define societies or a group of people, besides ritual and ceremonies, other aspects of culture such as languages, words , clothes, art , food, may be involved more in societies or nation, especially in minorities than rituals and ceremonies. Without spring festival, Chinese people still have Chinese, character , qipao, water painting, gongbao chicken and so on. Without ceremonies and rituals, Chinese people can still fell different from others and remain the sense of who they are. Admittedly, in some countries , rituals occupy a great part of people’s life, such as Indian, and without the rituals people may lose a great part of their usual life, thus these societies will diminish the sense of  who they are. The same is true for groups of people who involve a lot in rituals, take the priest for example.

All in all, although the ritual and ceremonies is a part of a culture and people will define a culture easier with them, for most societies and groups of people, without rituals an ceremonies, people still understand themselves clearly. Other aspects of culture probably influent more with societies and groups of people.
