Does the study of history have value only to the extent that it is related to our daily lives? The speaker claims so, but I only partly agree with him. I concede that the research of history has its value in our daily lives. However, studying history provides other important values beyond our daily lives.

Admittedly, the study of history can direct our daily lives availably. From history we can absorb much experience, which makes our daily lives better. For example, many patients who suffer cancers or other hazardous diseases are due to their bad habits in daily lives, such as no abstinences to alcohol, cigarettes, no regular exercises, even drug uses, etc. From the past behaviors from them, we can study that if we follow to these life habits as them, we'll suffer dangerous diseases in future. The study of the past can instruct us make a much better life style in our daily lives in future. However, aside from the value in our daily lives, history could render us many other values in other respects.

Studying history can provide us courage when confronting contemporary challenges or unexpected failures. We can learn the experience from the great inventor, Thomas Edison, who always failed for numerous times before he could get his new invention. From the study of past great people, we can know that no matter how big or numerous challenges or failures you may face, never give up, you will success ultimately. Such courage is obtained from our study of history.

The study of history also makes us avoid repeating mistakes. For example, in nineteenth-fifties, in Soviet Union, Stalin, who was an autocrat in ruling the country, even after the victory of the Second World War. Because of his autocratic policy, the powers were only in very minority of partizans' hands, the country was under the control of these minorities, regardless of public willingness, which resulted in the failure of governing the country and laid the hidden troubles for the later separation of the country. From this example, we know that to govern a country should allow for people's willingness, govern by democracy, and allot the powers fairly. The importance of history can not be limited only in our daily lives, it also can direct how to govern a country.

Moreover, it is fun to study history, which can make us enjoying ourselves in mental. As we know, the process of studying history is a process of exploring the past. When you find out the complexity of one event, you will feel much satisfied in your spirits. And we know that the arts, cultures, evolutions are inextricably related with history, the more you study history, the more knowledge you will obtain, and the more your mental thoughts will be satisfied.

To sum up, the study of history can not only show its value to our daily lives, but can provide us many other important values beyond our daily lives.
