177."The study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. After studying the discipline, we see the same world as before, but with different eyes."

The major function of education is to improve one’s morals and faculties.I strongly agree that studying an academic discipline certainly alters the way we perceive the universe. Although the world is the same as before, we have changed our way in observing it with our increasing learned knowledge.

An essential contribution of academic discipline is that it provides us with myriads of methodologies to understand our mysterious world and also permanently reshapes our picture of the universe. Francis Bacon once said in his studies, “Studies serve for delight, for ornament, and for ability. Their chief use for delight is in privateness and retiring; for ornament, is in discourse; and for ability, is in the judgment and disposition of business.” With specific knowledge of the world, we begin to improve our understanding of the world and the universe. In ancient time people had little knowledge about the nature and the world, and they were only able to observe the world with bared eyes. For a relatively long period people were believed that the sun was rotating around the earth and the earth was flat and square. But nowadays few pople are not aware of the common sense that the earth rotates aound the sun. In a word, after studying an academic discipline such as physics, we can observe the world with a more precise perspective.

Moreover academic discipline changes our cognitions, even our attitudes toward our life and the whole world. By studying subjects like history and classics, we attain the ability to synthesize and relate, to weigh cause and effect, to see events in perspectives which are just the faculties that are highly required in business or almost any general field. Also we learn about our ancestor from history and then have knowledge about the site we are now living at. Consider another example, liberal art teaches people how to think, read, write, and speak intelligently, how to get along with others, and how to conceptualize problems. With the knowledge of various academic disciplines, human beings learn to research deeper into the world and acquire the further information

Finally the world will not vary with our growing awareness of the whole universe although it is changing itself everyday. Only though applying our knowledge and new ideas into practice, we can influence a bit to the world correspondingly and gain the deeper insight of the world. Besides, people should develop a changing view to the world which varies all the time. The current conditions of the earth and even the cosmos are gradually becoming different; therefore humankind’s cognitions of the world are correspondingly developing from day to day.

In conclusion, we can not change the world solely by the way of studying academic disciplines, yet our sight of the world and the way it works is going to change with our knowledge about the universe.

是啊，可能都是看范文得来的例子，我再想想换点新鲜的去
