As Francis Bacon has it," Natural abilities are like natural plants that need pruning by study everyday." Everybody are born like a white and pure paper that will be influenced by our society, transforming into different characters and pursuing a variety of values. Concerning the status of such nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology or fortune-telling, they are also some subsistent things which attract certain people. Nonetheless, it should be considered carefully and seriously in defining that they play a vital role in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science.

First of all, the existence of nonmainstream, including all the activities either negative or positive, has no necessary relation with the fact that we should guarantee their positions in satisfying human needs. People may find peace and enlightenment in taking part in astrology or fortune-telling but it does not mean we should encourage these stuffs or spread them even if they may do good to some people to some extent. There is a wide and insurmountable gap between these nonmainstream areas between religions and mainstream science. We can hold the stance to permit people to join in these activities but we shall never intend to put them replacing some of the functions that should be implemented by science.

On the other hand, such nonmianstream areas of inquiry including paranormal pursuits are often companied with negative effect or false instructions that may do harm to people and our society. For example, several years ago, many ignorant people in China, most of whom are quite normal before, try to worship something called Fa Lun Gong which is created by a normal people who always lost his jobs before this "cause". His preach, always stirring and stimulating people into crazy actions and violent expressions, made numerous people lose their rationality and consciousness and they burned their bodies or did not have food and water for several weeks to show their sacred spirit. We can find a lot of such disasters in the human history which are mainly caused by some poisonous paranormal pursuits that suffused like disease. In giving a sensible definition to all the nomainsteam areas of inquiry, we may confront with chances of the happening of such tragedies again one day.

Last but not the least, although I suggest us be quite prudent in dealing with these pursuits, we should also sustain our clemency in giving these activities a reasonable space and social environment if they keep legal and maintain not dangerous. Everybody has their own rights to choose their individual pursuit as long as they do not hurt other people or impede the order of our society. Just like my supporting not encouraging these nonmainstreams, we should also avoid canceling or forbidding these areas without any evidence or solely based on our prejudice and self-reliance. They are just like the relationship between majority and minority of a society, majority must not try to diminish the minority no matter how different attitudes or pursuits the minority have even if they seem irrational or uncivilized sometimes.

In sum, just like before, the human being have built up a scientific and civilized world in preventing some kind of superstitions to occupy our hearts, we should depend on mainstream science in solving our problems. Furthermore, the former history has warned us that extremely paranormal pursuits always brought unexpected troubles, which means we should limit certain activities to some extent. Nevertheless, we may also contain other people's pursuits if they do nothing wrong or harmful. According to the reasons above, we may draw a conclusion that such mainstream are not supposed to play a vital role in some aspects replacing the mainstream science but they still have rights to carry on in the world.
