TOPIC:ISSUE 226 - "People are mistaken when they assume that the problems they confront are more complex and challenging than the problems faced by their predecessors. This illusion is eventually dispelled with increased knowledge and experience."

Some problems we face today are more complex and challenging than those our ancestors meet, however most times this is an illusion which will eventually dispelled as the increase of our knowledge and experience..

Admittedly,, some problems we face today are more complex than those our ancestors meet. Researchers try to see everything deeper and deeper. Usually the surface of the world is easy to understand, but the inside is very hard. For example, since long before have people tried to get information about the interior structure of the earth, so they developed many methods most of which achieve much success. And now we know how many layers there are in the earth and so on. But the most challenging problem is still in front: what is the exactly component in the core of the earth? We can not get a sample of that part nor can the indirect ways give us an accurate answer. Thus, sometimes superficial problems are solved but more complex problems remained.

However, usually people make mistakes when they assume that the problems they confront are more complex and challenging than those faced by their predecessors. We can see this clearly in the problems in science. Most cases this illusion is usually based on two points: First, many people consider that they are studying problems which their ancestors can not deal with—the mathematic problems, the physical problems and so on. However, it is not because the problems our ancestors faced were much less complex but because our ancestors were not master so much knowledge as we do today. Complexity is relative but not absolute—to a same problem, different base of knowledge may offer different complexity. For example, our predecessors can only correctly analyze the macroscale compared to our ability to solve the problems relevant to microscale today. So we may assume that microscale is more complex than maroscale. However, if one day our predecessors suddenly had enough knowledge as we do now, they might treat microscale as challenging as macroscale they had tried to research the days before, it was equally possible that they could make the same achievements as we can. Second, since the problems our ancestors meet is solved and the answers are open to the world, usually we have no chance to solve those problems by ourselves. But the problems we confront today are still calling for solution, in this case we are easy to drop into the illusion that the problems we know the solution directly are easier than the ones we are striving to solve today. In fact, if we try to solve the problems faced by our predecessors on our own, we may feel them much harder than we thought they should be.

Furthermore, the misunderstanding will eventually be dispelled as the increasing of our knowledge and experience. When studying, people may have the chance to solve some problems their ancestors meet on their own, after which they may understand the difficulty their predecessors have. And as people are used to critical thinking, they may know that complexity is relative but not absolute. All those help the misunderstanding to be dispelled.

In sum, although we meet some problems that are more complex than those our ancestors face, if we think critically, most times this is the illusion, and this misunderstanding will eventually dispelled as the increase of our knowledge and experience.

Some problems we face today are more complex and challenging than those our ancestors meet, however most times(别弄吧,缺介词吧?) this is an illusion which will eventually dispelled as the increase of our knowledge and experience.(如果开头能更充实,不知会不会更好)

Admittedly,, some problems we face today are more complex than those our ancestors meet. Researchers try to see everything deeper and deeper. Usually the surface of the world is easy to understand, but the inside is very hard(后面的句子省的有点毛病。the surface of the world is easy to study, but the interior is mysterious for us). For example, since long before have(这里不应该倒装吧 而且 before是介词,having tried) people tried to get information about the interior structure of the earth, so they developed many methods most of which achieve much success(这里有点毛病,methods achieve success?  which are very successful). And now we know how many layers there are in the earth and so on. But the most challenging problem is still in front(be +adv(in front)这句话有点chinese的味道But we still face/confront more challenging problems.): what is the exactly component in the core of the earth? We can not get a sample of that part nor can the indirect ways give us an accurate answer. Thus, sometimes superficial problems are solved but more complex problems remained.(时态不对。superficial problems are solved but more complex ones remain)

However, usually people make mistakes when they assume that the problems they confront are more complex and challenging than those faced by their predecessors. We can see this clearly in the problems in science. Most cases (又落介词了 In most cases)this illusion is usually based on two points: First, many people consider that they are studying problems which their ancestors can not deal with—the mathematic problems, the physical problems and so on. However, if one day our predecessors suddenly had enough knowledge as we do now, they might treat microscale as challenging as macroscale(这两个词是什么意思啊 ?) they had tried to research the days before, it was equally possible that they could make the same achievements as we can. Second, since the problems our ancestors meet is(are) solved and the answers are open to the world, usually we have no chance to solve those problems by ourselves.

And as people are used to critical thinking, they may know that complexity is relative but not absolute. All those help the misunderstanding to be dispelled. (all those 具体指明就更好了 还有这句话说的优点问题 help people dispel misunderstanding.)

In sum, although we meet some problems that are more complex than those our ancestors face, (这种转折好象很牵强,如果改成problems that seem to be more complex ,不知怎样?)if we think critically, most times(同样没介词) this is the illusion, and this misunderstanding will (be)eventually dispelled as the increase of our knowledge and experience.

Thus, sometimes superficial problems are solved but more complex problems remained.这里面,surface 和 inside 的含义可大可小,这里面的例子偏重按照字面解释。最好在深化一句。说明白suface inside 指的是什么。

However, usually people make mistakes when they assume that the problems they confront are more complex and challenging than those faced by their predecessors. We can see this clearly in the problems in science. Most cases this illusion is usually based on two points: First, many people consider that they are studying problems which their ancestors can not deal with—the mathematic problems, the physical problems and so on.(这一条似乎可以放在上一段更加合适) However, it is not because the problems our ancestors faced were much less complex but because our ancestors were not master so much knowledge as we do today. Complexity is relative but not absolute—to a same problem, different base of knowledge may offer different complexity(这个观点好像和3段的绝对化之不必然重复了). For example, our predecessors can only correctly analyze the macroscale compared to our ability to solve the problems relevant to microscale today. So we may assume that microscale is more complex than maroscale.(举重若轻 tread a big task as a piece of cake) However, if one day our predecessors suddenly had enough knowledge as we do now, they might treat microscale as challenging as macroscale they had tried to research the days before, it was equally possible that they could make the same achievements as we can. Second, since the problems our ancestors meet is solved and the answers are open to the world, usually we have no chance(这个有无能为力不得不接受的意思,最好改为we don't need to etc )to solve those problems by ourselves.

And as people are used to critical thinking, they may know that complexity is relative but not absolute就是这个似乎重复. All those help the misunderstanding to be dispelled.

In sum, although we meet some problems that are more complex than those our ancestors face, if we think critically, most times this is强调句?指代最好表明 the illusion, and this misunderstanding will eventually dispelled as the increase of our knowledge and experience.
文字方面楼上的已经讲得很详细了。这里说说我对意思的理解。
结构标志如下:
topic partly reject
1 Admittedly,, some problems we face today are more complex than those our ancestors meet. Researchers try to see everything deeper and deeper. 随着认识的深入问题确实越来越难
2 However, usually people make mistakes when they assume that the problems they confront are more complex and challenging than those faced by their predecessors. 过去的问题简单是错误的
a>  First, many people consider that they are studying problems which their ancestors can not deal with—the mathematic problems, the physical problems and so on. 过去的知识不足所以是个难题
b> Second, since the problems our ancestors meet is solved and the answers are open to the world, usually we have no chance to solve those problems by ourselves. 因为有现成的答案,所以问题看上去简单
3 the misunderstanding will eventually be dispelled as the increasing of our knowledge and experience. 难度和时间没有绝对的关系
4 In sum, although we meet some problems that are more complex than those our ancestors face, if we think critically, most times this is the illusion, and this misunderstanding will eventually dispelled as the increase of our knowledge and experience.

ChunyanLi2005
microscale 是微观 macroscale 是宏观
long before 是固定搭配,和完成时连用,而且放在句首 要倒装
你的其他建议我已经作了修改了,谢谢

zhangheng1020
Complexity is relative but not absolute—to a same problem, different base of knowledge may offer different complexity(这个观点好像和3段的绝对化之不必然重复了
其实我第三段没有把这个作为新论点,只是复述了一下,说人们能认识到这个观点了。

其他意见很好,谢谢

关于你对提纲的理解,我还是有点伤心了,其实
3 the misunderstanding will eventually be dispelled as the increasing of our knowledge and experience. 难度和时间没有绝对的关系
这一点我是想说:误解随着知识和经验的增长会消失,汗。。。。。我觉得这句话已经很清楚了
