The speaker claims that tradition and modernization are so incompatible that people have no chance to choose both of them at the same time. In my view, the tradition and modernization not only have interaction, also affect each other.

Tradition is a part of the culture, including the inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought or action, and the handing down beliefs and customs. The tradition means some principles people are likely to obey and respect, and has been formed for a long time. Every country has it own tradition, which may seems to be strange for foreigners but warm and familiar to the native people. For instance, in China, people used to ask a familiar person whether he has his lunch, which is a polite propriety to Chinese but an insensible behavior to people from western countries. Nevertheless, traditions are actually changing as times gone. Another example, dress in white were only used in funeral and built a sad environment, but today people admit the white dress also means pure and clear, so Chinese bride are willing to dress on white gown on their wedding. Tradition changes when people's habit and thought altered. And people's custom, habit, and thought are affected by the modernization all the time. That's means, sometimes, traditions changes for the affection of modernization.

Modernization is prevailing things, and is always changing from one period to anther. It is always associated with the technology and progress up to the minute. In a modern society, people are pursuing new inventions and technologies which bring more convenience to human life, and then put these inventions and technologies into practice. And people must not neglect one more step before they examine whether these new creatures against human moral values. For example, human now become more and more skillful at produce intelligent automatons, and many factories are now using machines instead of employee to do the fundamental work for their produce. If one day the skill of automaton is popular with all the factories in the world,  the efficiency of producing will be enhance, but a great number of people will lost their jobs. And it probably will damage the stability of society. So people have to pass judgment on the new inventions and technologies, depending on the inherent moral values in our mind. These moral values are undoubted parts of traditional cultures. Modernization is based on the traditional culture and limited by the traditions

In sum, the tradition and modernization do not so absolutely differ from each other. Tradition is essence of the history, while modernization is the glorious future, but they have affection and interaction with each other, sometimes they even combine together.

Modernization is based on the traditional culture and limited by the traditions这段看了半天，很明显还是在讲现代化之技术进步对传统的影响，只是换了个角度－moral values,技术的进步在一定角度看确实有受传统道德观的制约，但是你这个例子用的假设太多完全没有说服力，尤其是If one day.....我更是一头雾水，如果是我的话，我会从你的观点出发，然后先摆出一个大前提，就是在某些方面技术的进步是要受传统道德制约的，比如现在的human clone technology尽管可以给人类带来好处，比如organ transplantation,但是克隆人也是人，他有自己的权利，这就是人类的传统道德所体现的伟大之处－humanity，也可以从另一个角度看，就是现在的研究人员虽然有先进的仪器和设备，但他们的研究仍然基于一些传统的理论，所以现代化是root in some tradttional principles 的，此外你也可以从文化角度去论述，比如我们仍然喜爱圣诞老人，believe God  and etc.
