Since too much emphasis placed on the force of law or legislation, the potential strength to form a harmonious society may be neglected be the author. Now I'll state my viewpoint that laws still have the ability to sublimate humans' ideas in details.
It is indeed that laws have the definite priority to control people's behavior by relying on the rule of government and undoubtedly that is true. We may even consider that under a mighty government, laws constrain the majority and with uncorrupted officials and systems, laws almost constrain everyone in the society. That is what we call “Price commits crimes gets the same punishment as citizens."
However, what the arguer fails to understand is that the relationship between laws and human nature is not "reform and reformed". Actually, they have no relationships. If we should combine them together, the sole relationship is that laws restrain the way in which human nature is presented. First of all, what is human nature? Take the right of privacy for an example. The curiosity is a human nature rather than the violating other's right of privacy. And the legislation protecting the right of privacy is not made to prevent people being curious but lead the curiosity into other aspects without offense other people. So, there is no conflict between laws and human nature. Evidently, laws do not forbid people eat, drink and enjoy happiness which we could call human nature.
Furthermore, laws and legislation have the responsibility and ability to reform what is in people's hearts and mind. As mentioned before, laws are based on the human nature called submission and do not obstacle the human nature called wildness. How can we help babies to get good habits? The most important one is they should be docile and do as you tell them. If they instantly do as they wish, how they could understand your intention and expectation. That is the same as the whole society. Before people can comprehend the purpose and accord the meaning of laws, they must be controlled to be educated how the laws benefit them and the whole world. Obviously, effect of laws of civilization is remarkable. Since the abolishment of racial segregation act and promulgation of acts especially striking racism, the whole Americans have been spurning discrimination of race. Additionally, we Chinese have abjured the bad customs of marriage between cousins. These are indispensable with laws and legislation.
With the development of humans, we demand more laws to regulate our society and protect our rights. And except for legislation, we still need execution and judicial power. The segregation does not mean they are isolated in our daily life. It is believable that with systematical, complete and reasonable laws, we will live more happily.
