Issue 185
Scandals-whether in politics, academia, or other areas-can be useful.
They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.

Scandals, no matter in politics, academia, or any other areas, will definitely incite the public’s attention and debate. Although, any way, it is fairly shameful for a government, an academician, or any other social celebrities to be involved into a scandal, scandals can sometimes be useful for it is an effective way for the public to supervise the governor’s and celebrities’ behavior.

In the first place, due to the intensive media coverage, the common public the becoming more and more aware of the politicians’ and social luminaries’ behaviors and performances. Otherwise, it becomes increasingly hard for those governors and celebrities to conceal their invalid and illegal actions. In this respect, supervising the behaviors and performance of those social luminaries has become one of the most important functions of media system. With out media coverage, perhaps only few people could learn about the Watergate scandal as detailed as they do now. Although the exposing of the Watergate affairs ignited a severe constitutional crisis, but because of the vast attention of the public it drew to the scandal, it also had established the nation wide reputation of Washington Post due to its detailed and valiant reveal of the scandal. Hwang Woo-suk’s faking human stem cell research has also caused a world wide attention and made people learn about the danger of the scientific fake. In this situation, it is an effective way to draw people’s attention to some social problems by media coverage.

Secondly, as I have mentioned in the example of the Watergate affairs, the exposing of the scandal by media coverage may help not only reveal the truth to the public but also solve the social problems. For exposed by the media coverage to the public, it is no longer possible for the celebrities who commit the scandals to conceal their crimes. They have no choice but to confess. With the great pressure imposed by the public, the relevant judicial institutions will begin to investigate thoroughly the details of the scandal. Thereby, as the criminals been punished by law, the whole society is purified.

Last but not the least; I am persuaded in my mind that the most effective way to reduce the tragedies caused by the abuse of power by the governors is to prevent them from occurring. Therefore, afraid of scandals can to a great extent force the person in power to be prudent and discreet. Supervised by millions of people, the government or a certain institution will perform better in order to enhance their public reputation.
In conclusion, although scandals is whatsoever a tragedy of a society, they can be useful to reveal and solve the exposed social problems. Moreover, it is to some extent a symbol of the power of populace, and the symbol of the power of democracy.

In the first place, due to the intensive media coverage[很地道,学习中~!], the common public the[are,小错误啊] becoming more and more aware of the politicians’ and social luminaries’ behaviors and performances. Otherwise[这个转折不太对吧,我觉得应该是Therefore], it becomes increasingly hard for those governors and celebrities to conceal their invalid and illegal actions. In this respect, supervising the behaviors and performance of those social luminaries has become one of the most important functions of media system[看这句就使人觉得是在讲mass media的作用]. With out[Without] media coverage, perhaps only few people could learn about the Watergate scandal as detailed as they do now. Although the exposing of the Watergate affairs ignited[这个词用的很好啊,呵呵] a severe constitutional crisis, but because of the vast attention of the public it drew to the scandal, it also had established the nation wide reputation of Washington Post due to its detailed and valiant reveal of the scandal. 偶就知道中文名字] faking human stem cell research has also caused a world wide attention and made people learn about the danger of the scientific fake. In this situation, it is an effective way to draw people’s attention to some social problems by media coverage.

Secondly, as I have mentioned in the example of the Watergate affairs, the exposing of the scandal by media coverage may help not only reveal the truth to the public but also solve the social problems. For [是不是应该加个being啊?]exposed by the media coverage to the public, it is no longer possible for the celebrities who commit the scandals to conceal their crimes. They have no choice but to confess.[这里可以举例说Nxison刚开始如何如何抵赖,到后来不得不承认了] With the great pressure imposed by the public, the relevant judicial institutions will begin to investigate thoroughly the details of the scandal. Thereby, as the criminals been punished by law, the whole society is purified.

Last but not the least; I am persuaded in my mind that the most effective way to reduce the tragedies caused by the abuse of power by the governors is to prevent them from occurring[them 指的是governors吧,那么governors怎么会occur呢? Therefore, afraid of scandals can to a great extent force the person in power to be prudent and discreet. Supervised by millions of people, the government or a certain institution will perform better in order to enhance their public reputation.

In conclusion, although scandals is[are] whatsoever[这个词是否恰当?] a tragedy of a society, they can be useful to reveal and solve the exposed social problems. Moreover, it is to some extent a symbol of the power of populace, [逗号应该去掉吧]and the symbol of the power of democracy.
