issue10(文化类) "Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive, because it is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated."
正文:
The speaker holds the opinion that major cities of one country should be ensured to receive enough financial support from the government in order to thrive the nations' cultural traditions, which mainly locate in these big cities.  I only partly agree with the author's assertion, because there are also many important cultural traditions in the broad country areas, some of which might be of more importance comparing with those traditions locating in major cities.

In the first place, many wonderful traditions really exist in those big cities, such as the State of Liberty in New York, the Forbidden City in Beijing and so on. And cultural traditions reflected by these historic sites are rather valuable as the speaker expressed. Take the Forbidden City of China for example. The Forbidden City was built in Ming dynasty about four hundred years ago. It is said that the city contains more than ten thousand rooms, all of which are built in high techniques. In some degrees, the Forbidden City can be regarded as the symbol of China in the feudal period. A large amount of tourists, coming from all over the world, visit the Forbidden City every year. As for the city almost locates in the center of Beijing and the number of the tourists is becoming larger and larger, the government has to distribute proper amount of money in order to maintain the normal operation of the city, such as the repairing work, the cleaning job and so on. Certainly, the government profits much more money from the Forbidden City than it pays out before. Well, in a result, as the conclusion of the author shows, the Forbidden City of Beijing, which is one of the biggest cities in China, surely does an excellent job in thriving our Chinese cultural tradition.

However, we could not assert that a nations' cultural traditions are primarily in those large cities, because considerable amounts of nations' traditions exist in rural or remote area, such as the Great Wall in China, many famous pyramids in Egypt and so on. Most of these ancient constructions lie in the distant places, almost all of which are hard to reach. Hence, cultural traditions in these remote areas are more likely to be preserved than those cultural traditions reflected by constructions locating in big cities. The Great Wall of China, for instance, can illustrate the point vividly. The Great Wall wanders in the north part of China for about five thousand kilometers, and most of the areas where the Great Wall passes, are mountainous and rural areas. That is to say, almost all the part of the Great Wall can not be arrived easily. Thus, cultural traditions in these areas are preserved more all-sided, comparing with those ones in major cities. In sum, we should not regard big cities as the only places where cultural traditions can be well preserved, while in many remote rural areas, considerable amount of cultural traditions are reserved as well. In other words, the government should also give enough money to those remote areas in order to thrive the whole nations' culture.

To conclude, in protecting and thriving cultural traditions, remote areas where many cultural traditions locate are of the same importance as the cities, if not more important than the latter one. We should not favor both of them. Only regarding both of them as great significance, can we achieve the final goal------thriving the whole nations' cultural traditions.

The speaker holds the opinion that major cities of one country should be ensured to receive enough financial support from the government in order to thrive (改成make … thrive) the nations' cultural traditions, which mainly locate in these big cities.  I only partly agree with the author's assertion, because there are also many important cultural traditions in the broad country areas, some of which might be of more importance comparing with those traditions locating (located) in major cities.

In the first place, many wonderful traditions (这里用historic sites更合适一些,跟such as后面的内容一致) really exist in those big cities, such as the State of Liberty in New York, the Forbidden City in Beijing and so on. As for (for去掉) the city almost locates in the center of Beijing and the number of the tourists is becoming larger and larger, the government has to distribute proper amount of money in order to maintain the normal operation of the city, such as the repairing work, the cleaning job and so on. Certainly, the government profits (改成gains) much more money from the Forbidden City than it pays out before. Well, in a result, as the conclusion of the author shows, the Forbidden City of Beijing, which is one of the biggest cities in China, surely does an excellent job in thriving (改成preserving) our Chinese cultural tradition.

To conclude, in protecting and thriving cultural traditions, remote areas where many cultural traditions locate are of the same importance as the cities, if not more important than the latter one. We should not favor both of them (这句话有歧义,字面上理解是两个都不赞成). Only (by) regarding both of them as great significance, can we achieve the final goal------thriving the whole nations' cultural traditions.
