TOPIC: ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."

Indeed, in such a world that is improving everyday, people are enjoying the benefits that the development of technology brought. We are explosive to one of the greatest invention, television, more and more. Television brings us entertainment, instant news, etc. However, I still consider it cannot replace the role of books that impart knowledge to the human beings.

Television can be used as a learning tool for us to gain information.  With a single TV set and a remote, we can simply stay at our house and get access to almost everywhere in the world. The development of the communication and electronic technology guarantee the TV industry is capable to show the instant and vivid pictures to us. No matter the election of the US president or the world cup of soccer or a wedding ceremony hold in a small village in South Africa. Due to the colorful and animated pictures, television also are a teaching supplement in the class of performing, students can clear and quickly see what the exactly movements should be which is a great help for their improvement in performance.

Although the television has so many advantages for mankind, the author still overlooks some important characters the books have which make them not substitute by the television.

Compared to the big, heavy TV set, books are convenient to be taken with. Books do not have troublesome cables, they are light and proper for people to bring that we can read books almost everywhere such as taking a train, lining for the bus or even when we are traveling somewhere. Obviously, we cannot take a TV to anywhere as we like.

Traditionally, books are treated as a learning tools that many of us already have a reading habit that even we are not comfortable using a TV set to learn. Lots of people, especially the one who do not use TV too much must have the experience that cannot work about even a simple question when looking at the screen. Like almost any kind of habit, reading habit is also hard to change that these kind of people must not think television can take place of the books.

There are also many books reserved in the libraries or household that are left several years before which contains great thought of the people who lived before us when the television and video is not invented yet. These books are also have great historic value that video cannot gain. There are also some kinds of books whose contents are novels, poems or diaries that cannot be transferred to video or television signals. So, Human being can just open them and read the books if they intend to seek the information they contain.

In fact, what we seek is just the information or knowledge when we are learning. Both the books and televisions are very useful tools to help us. There is not a distinct result when we talked about which one is better for learning everything. But if we divided the subjects, we can find that learning instant news and in performance study, televisions are better tools while for other subjects and considerations, books are probably more suitable for us to learn.
