Tradition is the belief, value, way of action, and other heritages both material and spiritual we get from our ancestors and people in the past, while modernization refers to those things related to contemporary world. There is collision and crash between the two all the time, however, they could and should be compatible with each other, since we could abandon neither of them.
Among the various things we possess, tradition is the one that we could not give up for the life. It is where our spirit lies in and relied on, which also connects us with other people in the same nation and distinguishes us from the other part of the world. Tradition gives us the name we bear, the belief we hold and the way we behavior in a integral society, and thus could not be simply replaced by some modernized belief and way of life. We Chinese people always consider Spring Festival to be the biggest day of the year, in which period we should spend with the whole family to enjoy the warm atmosphere, visit the relatives, and together pray for a new and happy year. This surely can not be altered by the intense pressure the modern world put on people’s shoulders, since no matter how important work means to the modern people, the Spring Festival is the very time which signifies a real unification of a family and could indicate the things that are going to happen in the next year.
Although tradition means a lot to people, sometimes, they have to compromise in front of the modernization, which can be well represented by the buildings and transportations in the city. Modernization brings about endless convenience and a comparatively safe life. Many traditional buildings that are still standing in the city are always devoid of the denizens due to their deficiencies in designing and construction. Some of them are just kept in order to preserve the historical sites, and others are waiting for being replaced by the modern buildings which could make full use of the space, and have a comparatively better structure as well as safer material for people to live in. In the capital of Beijing, those typical courtyard houses, namely Si He Yuan are being rebuilt into the modern dwellings which could provide the former residents with convenient water and electrical supply.这段说得有点绝对,一个是building不一定只能住人用,二是traditional building不一定就不结实。如果一定要这样说的话,最好在你的assertion后面给一个小理由
However, only through a few aspects of the life where we see the contradiction between tradition and modernization, we can not hastily generalize that they are totally incompatible, in that the later one is in fact rooted in and stemmed from the former. If we compare the whole society to a skyscraper, tradition is the very foundation of that building with the modernization makes out the part up ground. The deeper the foundation keeps, the higher skyscraper can stands into the sky. In the world’s myriad cities, only Rome is called the eternal city, which can furnish a perfect example of a combination between the past and contemporary world. The whole city is also named as a repository of monuments of all periods, among which the most famous is the Colosseum—the amphitheatre once was used to show the naval battles and gladiatorial combats. Today, modern opera, concerts and other great activities are still going on in this traditional masterpiece, which even actually add more glories to the events.
Governments throughout the world are also smelling the urgent need to preserve the tradition while exercise modernization. They starts many programs in fields of education and tourism in order to impart the country’s precious heritages to the decedents and make them known to the world. Maybe the best way for the two to coexist is to use the modern approaches to reserve our tradition treasures.最后这句并不好。根据你各段的内同,应该是一个基本平衡的观点,但是结尾段明显偏向tradition,而且给我的感觉是集中在建筑方面了。呵呵不知道说得对不对。 |
