"Last year, sales of our Fierce Fighter toy airplane declined sharply, even though the toy had been a top seller for three years. Our customer surveys show that parents are now more worried about youthful violence and are concerned about better education for their children. Therefore, to maintain profits we should discontinue all our action toys and focus exclusively on a new line of educational toys. Several other toy companies have already begun marketing educational toys and report sales increases last year of 200 percent. And since the average family income is growing, sales of new Hyper-Go toys should also increase."

According to the reasons listed above, the author suggests that the Hyper-Go Toy Company should produce educational toys instead of action toys. Such suggestion seems applicable at the first sight. However, after careful scrutiny, we can find that the author overlooks and misunderstand several aspects of the reasons.

First of all, the fact that the parents are concerned about the youthful violence and better education for the children does not in any ways guarantee that they will not purchase the action toys anymore. There is no evidence appeared to demonstrate the relationship between the action toys and youthful violence. It is possible that the youth commit violent actions not because the toys, but due to more and more violent TV program. Perhaps the action toys reduce the violent tendency of the children since they show the children what is the good and bad action through the playing procedures. Further more, we still do not the relationship between the educational toys and the better performance of the children in learning. Since the educational toys are also toys which focus on playing not study, it is possible that educational toys can not help the children in their education.

Secondly, the increase sales in educational toys of several other toy companies do not necessarily indicate that Hyper-Go will also make a good investment in educational toys. Perhaps there were only a few educational toys produced in the periods before last year, so the increase of 200 percent may not a big amount compared to action toys which took a big part in the toys markets already. Moreover, maybe the market already been controlled by these toy companies that Hyper-Go will not share the market in the next years for its late action. Also, what about the price of the educational toys, if the cost of the Hyper-Go are much higher, their toys will probably higher than other companies' toys, but still have the same quality. So the parents will be likely to choose other companies' products.

Last but not least, although the average family income is growing, the parents may not use the money to purchase the Hyper-Go toys. If all the prices grew up accompanied by the increasing income, people will spend more on every field as a result, which means their income does not increase actually. Or maybe the parents want to spend the money on the items that are more necessary for the family such as better appliance and furniture. Even the parents will purchase more toys; they can still choose other companies' toys.

Before the Hyper-Go deciding whether produce educational toys other that action toys, it still needs to make clear what we discuss above in the article.
