Nowadays, more and more old buildings are replaced by the modern ones. The value of them arises the controversy among people and leaves us a profound thought. Some people argue that the modern development should be given precedence over the old buildings because the process of contemporary is of great importance. I do not agree of this statement and hold my own opinion that the old buildings is valued much and should be viewed as significant as the modern ones.

At the first place, ancient buildings act as reminders of the past, reflect the history both glory and disgrace. The history is always of great value and should be remembered by our descendants. A psychologist said that’ the persons who forget the history have no future’. The old buildings reveal its function as a tool for us to understand the past better. For example, the Lu Gou Bridge in China illustrates this statement. It is famous both for its old age and the high-technical in the long past, also for its record of the war between Chinese and Japanese. It is a milestone that Chinese began to struggle against the invasion of Japanese in the 1937. As a Chinese, we should never forget this sorrow history and work hard to improve our country.

Second, these ancient buildings maintain great value when they display the cultures of this country to the visitors and researchers all over the world. At one hand, people are attracted in the ingenious construction and delicate caves in the buildings and the culture value embodied in these masterpieces. At the other hand, we can not afford to rebuild these precious possessions as the past, thus the valueless buildings would exterminate. Take the Babylon garden, Iraq, for example. We may have a deep impression on this building and make an understanding of the culture and customs in Iraq. Another example is the Forbidden City, Beijing, China. We can learn the construct of the house where people lives in the past and the social classes of old China in the imperial. The visitors and scholars come here and disclose the mystery of the lives of the monarchs in China, which also a secret for the common people in China.

Further more, we can avoid the destruction of the ancient buildings by make a harmony between the modern development and the old buildings. We cannot simply deny the necessity of development and should search for a better solution to solve this controversy. After planning in a proper means, the old buildings can serve as a place of interest and attract visitors. It is common that the old buildings in every countries appeal visitors aboard and became the symbol of this country at last. The examples are fluent. The statue of liberty in New York, USA, for example, appeals many people each year and we know it as the symbol of America, which is the representative of liberty and democracy. Other example, Arch of Triumph, France state in the city and looks so magnificent surrounded by the modern buildings. And The Great Wall, China is also remembered by the world and seen in the outer space as the emblem of China.

Above all, my statement is verified clearly, illustrated by examples and argued by reasons. The old buildings should be given the precedence over others because they are of greater, or at least the same value as other kinds of buildings. We should devote to search a fitting means to compromise both of them and improve the society under this situation.
