The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.

Which one could decide the greatness of individuals, the one who live after them or their contemporaries? Looking back at the history, someone's greatness could be recognized by their contemporaries soon, while someone's greatness could only be decided by those who live after them.

On the one hand, many individuals' greatness was recognized by their contemporaries soon after they had delivered great contributions to the society. For a simple example, Li Jiacheng, the richest Chinese, who owns The Long River Group, has brought great contributions to the prosperity and stabilization of Hong Kong. For this, all Chinese people have recognized that Li Jiangcheng is the business leader of Hong Kong and is very important to the development of Hong Kong ever since the commencement of his Long River Group. Another example is about Zhou Enlai, the first premier of The People's Republic of China. While he was living yet, all Chinese knew that Zhou was an excellent premier for his prudence living style and the contributions to China and all over the world. From the statement above, it is not difficult to find that the greatness of individuals could be decided by the contemporary people.

On the other hand, in the long history, there were many individuals whose greatness just could be decided by their offspring for the complex politic and social background at that time or the profundity of the masterpieces the great people brought to the society. Van Gogh, a great Dutch painter, who had powerfully influenced the current of Expressionism in modern art, could even not sell one piece of his paintings at that time to change some food, for people at that time had not recognized the greatness of his art works. However, nowadays his masterpieces are almost invaluable after people had understood them. This is just because that people at that time did not recognized the greatness of Van Gogh and did not prospect his works' tremendous influence to the post art world. Moreover, the process of the natural science development during 14th to 17th century is another good example to substantiate that sometimes that greatness of individuals could be decided only by those who live after them for the complex social background. Copernicus, a great Polish astronomer, who put forward the cosmic view of solar-centered and was almost persecuted to death by Catholic Church, is a good example.

Finally, from the above statement, it is not difficult to conclude that whether the greatness of individuals could be decided by the people who live after them or by their contemporaries is related to many factors. Firstly, the social background in which these great people lived is very important. Although many great people, such as Copernicus, delivered immense contributions to the development of natural and social science, they could not be recognized by their contemporaries for the stagnant social environment. Secondly, the profundity of their masterpieces own is another significant factor, such as Van Gogh's paintings. Thirdly, whether the contributions brought by these great people could be accepted by the public soon is also a significant factor. All the three factors mainly determine whether the greatness of individuals could be decided by people who live after them or by their contemporaries.

In sum, this issue is just a very case-by-case study and is influenced by many factors. We could not gain a united solution about who could decide the greatness of individuals in the history. Both the people who live after these great individuals and their contemporaries have chance to decide the greatness of them.

Which one could decide the greatness of individuals, the one who live after them or their contemporaries(感觉这里单复数要同意吧,those who live after them or their contemporaries)? Looking back at the history, someone's greatness could be recognized by their contemporaries soon, while someone's greatness could only be decided by those who live after them.

On the one hand, many individuals' greatness was recognized by their contemporaries soon after they had delivered great contributions to the society. For a simple example, Li Jiacheng, the richest Chinese, who owns the Long River Group, has brought great contributions to the prosperity and stabilization of Hong Kong. For this, all Chinese people(Chinese已经是中国人了) have recognized that Li Jiangcheng is the business leader of Hong Kong(all Chinese have regarded him as the business leader of HK and an irreplaceable person to the development of HK ever since …….) and is very important to the development of Hong Kong ever since the commencement of his Long River Group. Another example is about Zhou Enlai, the first premier of the People's Republic of China. While he was living(对这个词建议查下,我记得alive作表语比较多,而living作定语比较多,这里好象要用alive) yet, all Chinese knew that Zhou was an excellent premier for his prudence(形容词!) living style and the contributions to China and all over the world.

Van Gogh, a great Dutch painter, who had powerfully influenced (on) the current of Expressionism in modern art, could even not sell one piece of his paintings at that time to change some food(这个例子我也用了,看了别人的文章说他生前只卖了一副画,看来要考证下了, 考证了下,是only one), for people at that time had not recognized the greatness of his art works. However, nowadays his masterpieces are almost invaluable after people had understood them. This is just because that people at that time did not recognized the greatness of Van Gogh(his talent, 经常重复一个词不太好,可以多找写近义词替代)and did not prospect his works' tremendous influence to(on) the post(这里的意思没有看明白) art world.

Firstly, the social background in which these great people lived is very important(crucial ,critical, essential). Although many great people, such as Copernicus, delivered immense contributions to the development of natural and social science, they could not be recognized by their contemporaries for the stagnant social environment. Secondly, the profundity of their masterpieces own is(怎么两个动词连在一起了?the internal profundity of their masterpieces is) another significant factor, such as Van Gogh's paintings. Thirdly, whether the contributions brought by these great people could be accepted by the public soon is also a significant factor.(我觉得这个观点有点偏离了,感觉就是题目要我们说明这个问题,如果同时代的人认同了就不用证明了吧,可能说的不是很清楚, 不过你应该好好想想) All the three factors mainly determine whether the greatness(achievement) of individuals could be decided by people who live after them or by their contemporaries.

In sum, this issue is just a very case-by-case study and is influenced(affected) by many factors. We could not gain a united solution about who could decide the greatness of individuals in the history. Both the people who live after these great individuals and their contemporaries have chance to decide the greatness of them.
