Our life has gone through great changes since the video camera came into being, which provides a totally new and different way of recording life compared with the traditional written methods. Man had to record anything in terms of letters before sound and video became effective and efficient tools to make the details of our life available to our descendants.Such documentations are inevitable to be manipulated by the recorder,subjectively or objectively; while are also mis-interpretated by those read and learn from those documents. The video camera, unlike its vulnerable predecessor,is able to put down every detail as sincerely as possible for future reference.

Compared with written records, video documentation is much less influenced by the one who took record and the one who interprets it. Language itself is an abstraction from human life accumulated through thousands of years of culture life, which is always on the change. We can hardly understand the written documents of our ancestor from hundreds of years ago if we haven't undergone specialized training. Even those professionals who have learned to understand ancient literature and to transform it into forms acceptable of our contemporary culture, though avoiding all the time mis-interpretation or over-conjecture, are not able to assure us 100 percent sincerity to the original information our ancestor inclined to convey. Video camera, which is an objective media rather than a ambiguous conveyer, can record things as it is, accurately. With the improvement of the quality and life time of video records, our descendants will be able to see alively revival of the life period we live and record today.

Another conspicuous advantage of videorecords is its integrity. Written records are vulnerable to not only objectiveabrasion of its original accuracy, but also subject to deliberate modification,revision or even transformation when reviewed and handed on, which heavily hampered the soundness of the record or even totally alternated it. Such misleading can hardly happen when the video camera is used as one of the powerful tools of recording.

Yet it's rash to say that video camera has already won over traditional written documents and become the new domination of documentation field since video record is limited in several aspects. There are still many fields that video camera cannot be used as powerful methods or recording. The lagger-behinds are mostly of two reasons: firstly, video media is just suitable to be utilized to record happenings rather than detailed data andinformation. For example, a video clip can provide us direct impression of a famous catholic church of its style and splendidness, however, written documents are indispensable in recording the dimension, history and spiritual value. On the other hand, video records are still in the face of the demand of giant data storing space. Though with the help of recent improvement in video data compressing, we can reduce the size of video records considerably, the quality of the video is damaged at the same time. Traditional written documents are still welcome in that they are much cheaper and widely available.

We cannot say whether video camera or thewritten document is more important than the other in that each one has its irreplaceable merits and values. Video camera offers the accurate and convincing method of recording which can revive the life in before while traditional written document can provide a more detailed and rational record in lower cost. Both of the two will be important tools for our human being to hand in formation as complete and accurate as possible to study for our descendants.
