In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach.

层次二 可能带来的负面影响
1．不能排除工作和教学的在时间上相抵触 2. 可能会耗费老师的过多精力 3. 无法要求所有的教员，有些学科的教员除外，比如一些冷门专业，比较难找工作，万一找不到，会影响学生学习激情

层次三 提高教学质量不一定非要要求教员在学术以外领域，进行工作。还有其他的办法。
1．参加学术论坛。2. 通过网络 3.加强学校硬件建设。4.聘请更资深的教授学者 以上都能有效的提高教学质量

The speaker makes a conclusion that in order to improve the quality of education at college and university level, all faculty need to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach. In my view, I concede this statement that working outside the academic will bring advantages to improve the education quality, but it also required some supplements.

Admittedly, the method the speaker recommends holds certain advantage in many respects. Firstly, as it is known to all, science and technology develops fast in today’s society. So, for the college and university faculty, it is a good chance to keep the pace of new knowledge developing trends if they are working in some huge companies, like Microsoft, IBM, DuPont and so on. Secondly, teacher’s working outsides academic could contributes to knowing which kind of students our society really needed, thus they base on the requirement in culturing their students and make the student more competed. Moreover, some faculty might bring back some research funds from their working outsides. In consequently, the money they earned will possibly be spent in students’ education. At last, in sharing their working experience outside the academic world with students might impetus the students’ learning motivation and inhibit their boring emotion in learning preliminary knowledge.

Despite the advantage that teachers’ working outside, the shortcomings are also equally. For teachers, time spent on working and instruction is competitive. The more they spend on working outside the less they will dedicate on education. Additionally, to working outside will definitely use up their finite energy which might lead to distract of students’ education. Further more, it is unfair and impossible to require all faculty to have jobs outside campus, some kinds of unpopular specialities are less and insufficient. Teachers’ failing in find a job will also deflate the learning interest of their students.

At last, I should say to improve the quality of education has many ways. Education institution could hold academic colloquium which could interchange the current new learning. Or they also can use internet in finding some useful information in enrich their teaching content. Besides, a university should be recommended to strengthen the research condition such as laboratory, equipment and adequate research funds. It will also be useful to hire some famous professor achieved in some fields to teach in the campus. All that I mentioned above will contribute to the education quality improving not only working outsides will do.

In sum, to improve the quality of education, teachers’ working outside can be useful in many aspects, but it also brings some disadvantages. A clever choice is to evaluate it firstly and then make a balance of it. Additionally, besides working outside could improve the quality of insruction at the college and university level, there are still much we should do to improve our education quality. It needs well planed.
