"In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."
[提纲]:基本赞成此观点
1.当今的教育,不应该只是在象牙塔的环境中得到提升,更应该通过和社会实际的相结合,才能与时俱进。如果只是在校园内继续照本宣科的进行书本知识的传授,那只是教死书而已。既无法不断提高自己的理论,也无法将其应用于社会。
2.当今的时代,教学不应该只是一种脱离实际的纯理论的知识传授,而更应该和实践相结合。这样能为学生带来更广阔的视野和更多行业内的信息,帮助学生寻找到视野目标。
3.但也并不是所有老师都应该把大量精力放在学校的工作上,那样有可能会分散教学的注意力,反倒会使教学质量下降。并且有些专业也很难能在外面相关领域找到工作,比如文学、历史和哲学。
[正文]:
It is a rapid time with everything rapid-moldering now. The world has changed, but the education, for the most part, hasn't. Young students are still learning the knowledge what their father had learned in the classroom where their father sit in. Now educators should be starting to look at what must be done to make sure the students make the grade in the new global competition. among the varied ways to make a more qualified education, as the issue says, it is a realizable and necessary that the faculty do some work outside the academic world in professions relevant to the course they teach, but to some extent.
To begin with, today's Education should not only be advanced in campus, the tower of ivory, but also should be combined with social actual circumstances in order to progress with time. Although education isn't exactly frozen in time, considering the peace of change in other areas of life, our education tends to feel like throwbacks. If the faculties still teach knowledge words to words in the textbooks or do the experiments which couldn't meet or reach the need of society in the campus, the books will be dead and the knowledge will not be applied to society. So if the faculty could spend part of his time working outside the academic world, he may know what the world outside the academy is like and what the developing society needs. Thus he could enhance his theory and improve a better instruction to students. For example, an IT professor who doesn't know the need of personal expression of Web 2.0 on the internet such as blog, youtube, wikipedia or myspace, his IT theory may still stop at a Web1.0 times which couldn't be more advanced. Therefore, working outside the academy will help the faculty to improve their knowledge and better their theory system.
Secondly, nowadays, education should not only be a simple knowledge impartment which is a pure theory and ivory-towered, but also be combined with practice. If the faculty could spend part of his time working outside the academic world, he may know more information in the relevant industry which could enrich students' knowledge; he may see and realize more development and changes in the relevant industry which could widen students' horizon; he may take a more detailed and colorful view of industry to the students who will make a better career choice. One of my professor did so, she is not only concentrated in her specialty of media research, but also works as a consultant in CCTV , she shows a colorful word of media and makes a better understanding of media industry for us, hence, most of us have a will to choose media as a career. Therefore a teacher who works outside relevant to his teaching does improve his quality of instruction at the college.
However, not all the faculty are fit for the work outside the academic world, it is difficult for some professors of these specialties such as literature, history and philosophy to find a appropriate work in their respective field outside the college. Moreover, the faculty should not pay a great deal of energy to their outside work, which could disperse the attention from instruction and make the teaching quality descend on the contrary.
To sum up, it is feasible for some of the faculty to spend time working outside the academic world, but while working out of campus, they should also pay more attention to their teaching, which is the most important after all. |
