It is the artist, not the critic, who gives society something of lasting value
Critic: a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings.

提纲：肯定作者观点，艺术家会给社会带来一些具有持久价值的东西，但是如果没有评论家的评论，艺术作品的发展和流传也许更艰辛。

层次一：不能否定评论家多艺术的价值传承的作用1）指出艺术家的不足之处2）肯定艺术家为艺术所做的贡献有利于鼓励艺术家创造更有价值的艺术(例子-Gorky创作trilogy, My children hood,  My Apprenticeship，My Universities 3）评论家对艺术的推广也有至关重要的作用.

层次二：是艺术家而不是评论家创造了艺术作品。给予了艺术以生命。1）艺术家的灵感和才华对艺术价值的流传起决定性作用，而不是评论家的评论2）艺术家的优秀的作品不一定需要评论家的评论才能被大众所接受，艺术流传就象一个化学方程式，艺术家是反映元素，而评论家只是一个催化剂。 4）艺术家没有评论家的评论也许更能激发他的创造力，因为有些评论家是在对艺术的破坏和压制(比如欧洲中世纪，对女性艺术家的排斥 裸体艺术，也被社会所排斥)

层次三： 艺术家创造艺术，评论家对艺术作品的筛选和推广，如果两者都能有效的结合，那么对艺术的传承来说是件好事。毕竟如今流传下来的大多数优秀的艺术作品还是和艺术家的辛勤劳作以及评论家的大力推广肯定所联系在一起的

The speaker claims that it is the artist, not the critic, who gives society something of forever value. I concede that artist plays a significant roll in the lasting value of works, however, as a matter of fact, although some critics may tends to undermine and constrain the artist’s creativity, most critics may also help these artists in reaching their achievement in some degree.

Admittedly, we can never ignore the effect that some good critics contribute to the lasting of value of work. From the critics’ suggestion, an artist could find out the shortcoming of his work, and then he may have the motivation to optimize his current art work, therefore the art will get an upper value. As history cited, artists develop their art skills and work value from the critics are not rare. Critics give the impetus to artist that helps them invent more great art work for people. For example, Gorky, one of the most famous novelists in the world, created the trilogy-My Childhood, My Apprenticeship, My Universities for us. Actually, these 3 works were not finished at the same time. Gorky created the last two works after he found his first art work was confirmed great by critics. At last, I should say, the critics also help to make these great works popular to the world, and give more people the chances and information in evaluating the value of them.

However, it is the artist not the critic who creates the real art and gives art work a life. The creativity and talent of artist play an important roll in the work, whereas the critics only render their suggestion. That’s why when we have enjoyed the famous work we can only remember the name of artist but not the name of critics. Secondly, not all the art work will not contain a lasting value without the critics’ comment. Some great art work like Mona Lisa’s smile is so outstanding for people that almost everyone will consider it as a valuable work. To make a analogy in a chemistry formulation, artist is like the reactant element, while the critic is only the catalyze. Without catalyze, the reactant will still make sense sooner or later. Next, some critics tends to undermine ant constrain the artist’s creativity. Example cited, in middle age in Europe, most great value work created by women have been forbidden or destroyed for the reason of times hierocracy. Also, in today’s age, some work like human body art has been consistent with eroticism by most critics that directly inhibit the development of art high level.

At last, artistes is the source of art work, while the duty of critics is to screen the work created by artistes and then let these good work go into populace. If these kinds of two persons could work effective and make a supplement for each other, it will be a good relationship. After all, the most value works lasting today are closely consistent with the effort of artists and the great prompt of critics. So what is important here is the method how we place these two persons in a correct role.

To sum up, I agree with the speaker’s broad assertion that it is the artist who gives us the work of lasting value. Nevertheless, critics’ effect on great work should also not be neglected. Some critics definitely give great help for artists, that is also the reason why there are so many great works exist today. In the final analysis, we are recommended to strike a balance in how we make a effective correlation-ship between two.

总的感觉是思路很全面，切入的角度也很好，还有一个巧妙的比喻。不过还要注意一下例子与论点的关联性，有些在深入一些会更好！
