Do people's appearance and behavior reveal their attitudes and interests as well as a society's ideas and values, as the speaker alleges? In my view, I agree that in some respects the appearance and behavior do reflect a society's attitudes and values, while in other respects they are not.

First of all, the way people look and dress do reveal people's attitudes and interests in some respects. And the individuals of a society have to adapt themselves to social life with others within some types of culture, so the appearance of people in a society also reveals the society's values and ideas. Consider, for instance, the Americans prefer casual and relaxing apparel such as T-shirts and jeans, which reveal their attitudes of neat and convenience as well as their extrovert racial characteristic. And the people from Arab countries usually wear aba and especially Arab women, who often wear veils to cover their faces. Those features of appearance mainly mirrored their religion belief. Therefore, in some respects, people’s appearance can reveal their attitudes, value and interests.

Additionally, the way people act usually reflects their attitudes and interests. And people's behavior is often conformed to certain social moral principles and customs, so that it further exposes a society's value and attitude. For example, people in America usually hug with each other when they meet between some acquaintances. This behavior reflects the warm heart and open mind of Americans in this free country. And the British people usually behave in a genteel and respectful manner toward others, which is a sign that place a high value on human dignity. Thus, people’s behavior can also reveal their attitudes, value and interests in certain respects.

Notwithstanding the foregoing argument in favor of the speaker's assertions in some respects, however, the outward appearance and behavior of people may not really reflect the truth of their attitudes and interests as well as a society's ideas and values. Consider, in some countries women who wear veils may not really reveal their religion belief but because the terrible environment such as sandstorm. Moreover, Japanese who work long hours in the company may not expose their notable value such as diligence, dedication and perseverance, but in fact he wants to earn more wages for financial stress. Consequently, the way people look and dress may be as a result of the climate and environment rather than people’s attitudes, and people’s act may be a wrong reflection of their attitudes and value.

To sum up, the speaker's assertion that people's appearance and behavior reveals their attitudes and interests has merits in some circumstances. In this more and more complicated world, we need to judge with more information about people’s culture and living conditions to gain reality of their attitudes and interests from the way they look, dress and act.
