1.       In ancient times, people sometimes needed the satisfaction from those nonmainstream sciences.
2.       However, in our times, mainstream science has been playing a leading role in society.
3.       Fortunately, nonmainstream sciences are almost replaced by the mainstream ones.  

It cannot be denied that some nonmainstream areas of inquiry such as astrology, fortune-telling, as well as psychic and paranormal have a certain influence on human being, but the whole thing become absurd the moment we think that all of these nonmainstream fields play such a vital part in our society in that they satisfy people's needs which are not addressed by those mainstream science. As a matter of fact, mainstream science is the leading science that to decide the trend of developing in our society, but not those nonmainstream ones.

Admittedly, human beings are satisfying with a few of contribution which are brought from those nonmainstream sciences. People have practiced various nonmainstream sciences for thousands of years. It became a widespread practice in many ancient societies, particularly among rulers, who often sought advice from fortune-tellers. In ancient China, for example, emperors had court astrologers and special diviners, who predicted the future using a set of sticks. In ancient Rome, special priests called augurs predicted the future by interpreting certain signs in nature. The ancient Greeks consulted oracles, which supposedly learned of future events by speaking directly with the gods.

However, it is true that some nonmainstream science offer human being certain satisfaction which mainstream science difficult to bring, but they have little support in science while mainstream science still enjoy the un-replaceable and leading level in our society. As we know, tested by time, all of the mainstream science have been existed in our times and playing a more significant role in our society. For example, based on the background of math and physics, electronic and magnetic wave alter the skeletons of technology in the world. In addition, as the main leading kind of mainstream science, information communication technology brings people huge convenience and satisfaction. As a consequence, mainstream science plays a more vital role towards human being in society.

Moreover, in fact, as science is consisted of nonmainstream ones and mainstream ones, man should have a clear sight to differentiate and use them to serve the society better. In our times, fortunately, nonmainstream science is almost disappeared in our civilization society and people are more relying on the real mainstream science in society. For instance, satellites replace astrology to predict future weather; Psychology and Medicine but not fortune-telling are largely practiced to insight one’s health and life. Apparently, our society is dominated by the mainstream science, and seems to continue to be.  

To sum up, it is true that some nonmainstream areas of inquiry have an certain in influence on human being, but it only skim the surface of the problem if it is believed that these nonmainstream field play such a vital part in our society only if they satisfy people's needs which are not addressed by those mainstream science. What we should do is focus on mainstream science but not the nonmainstream ones in our society.
