According to the speaker, socialization of our children determines the destiny of society and we do not know how to raise children bringing about a better society. In my view, I agree that socialization is important for our society, but strictly followed, merely socialization can not guarantee a better society. With respect to the ability of raising children, I think we have already learned how to raise children for bringing about a better society.

To begin with, I concede that how children are socialized plays an importance role to the destiny of society. In a society of fast developing science and technology, there are increasing needs for international cooperation. Thus, how our children are socialized, which means how well they are trained for a social environment or prepare for social life, is vital to the development of society. Unless our children are well socialized, they may grow up to be those who are isolated or even antisocial, which may impeded the healthy development of society. To the contrary, well socialized people can cooperate in research and trade. For example, recently more and more Nobel Prizes are won by a group of scientists rather than individual effort can best illustrate the importance of socialization.

However, socialization is not the only factor that determines the destiny of society. There are some other factors such as raw intelligence, innovation or even moral principles which are also important for the destiny of our society. For example, the outstanding physical scientist, Newton, who is antisocial to some extent and liked to read books alone, made a series of great contributions such as the law of gravity to society, which undoubtedly promotes the development of society. So we can see besides socialized, raw intelligence and innovation are also influence the development of society. Another example involves the human cloning, which is considered to be immoral conduct for killing human embryo. Although this high technological science can benefit human beings to some extent, yet without taking this under control of moral and ethical principles, it may lead the society to an immoral and unethical development.

With respect to the speaker's claim that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can better society, I disagree with this statement on the development and advancement of society. We need look no further than the human rights in modern society. Our predecessors were educated for striving for the improvement of human rights for many years. In today’s world, the rights for women and ethnic groups such as the black have been improved dramatically; the rights for homosexual and disabled people are also improved greatly. Thereby, our society is more and more tolerant and democratic with the efforts of our predecessors. As another example, the increasingly frequent cooperation among countries makes our society steadier and more suitable for human living, such as the cooperation of anti-terrorism among America and some Euro countries; collaboration in environmental protection for our life and for our future generations; multinational research of disease treatment to protect public health, etc. All these are the efforts that our children made for a better society. Thus, we have already learned to raise our children to bring about a better society.

In conclusion, I agree with the speaker insofar as socialization of our children plays a vital role to the development of our society. However, it is not the only factor. We should not deny the importance of some other factors such as innovation and raw intelligence. Moreover, I think we have already master how to raise our children to bring about a better society.
