ARGUMENT56
Collectors prize the ancient life-size clay statues of human figures made on Kali Island but have long wondered how the Kalinese artists were able to depict bodies with such realistic precision. Since archeologists have recently discovered molds of human heads and hands on Kali, we can now conclude that the ancient Kalinese artists used molds of actual bodies, not sculpting tools and techniques, to create these statues. This discovery explains why Kalinese miniature statues were abstract and entirely different in style: molds could only be used for life-size sculptures. It also explains why few ancient Kalinese sculpting tools have been found. In light of this development, collectors should expect the life-size sculptures to decrease in value and the miniatures to increase in value.

In this argument, the arguer concludes that the value of the life-size sculptures is likely to decrease and the miniatures to increase. To justify the argument, the arguer points out that archeologists have recently discovered molds of human heads and hands on Kali. To further demonstrate the argument, the arguer assumes that the life-size sculputres are made by the molds of acutal bodies and the miniatures are not. At the first glance, the argument is well present. However, after a careful examination, I find lots of logical flaws in this argument.
To begin with, the conclusion of the argument is based on the assumption that the life-like statues could be made by the molds recently found. However, there is not sufficient evidence to prove it. First, only the molds of human heads and hands are discovered. Perhaps, other parts of the statues are not made by the molds. Second, the discovery of the molds of life-like statues doesn’t mean that there are not any sculpting tools and techniques and all the life-like statues are made by the molds. Maybe the tools are buried somewhere and have not been found or perhaps they have already been destroyed工具被毁了这点我没有想到,有道理. Then some portions of the life-like statues were made by these tools and techniques. Thus these kinds of statues could not be made by the found molds. Without providing the evidence that the sculpting tools and techniques of the life-like statues doesn't have existed certainly, I'm not convinced that the life-like statues could be fabricatedfabricate是伪造编造的意思,用在这里可能不合适吧? again.
Moreover, the assumption that miniature could not be made again,这里最好讲清楚,不然有歧义 since the molds discovered cann’t be used for miniatures, is also questionable. The same as what has been talked above. The non-existence of molds of miniatures could not be deduced from the discovery of the life-like molds. Maybe there are lots of kinds of miniature molds lying under the field waiting to be discovered, not far from the place where the life-like molds was found后半句可以不要. Unless the arguer could offer the evidence that the molds of the miniature surly have not existed, I'm not acceptI will not accept the conclusion of the argument.
In addition, the conclusion is fallacious, as the art value is not decided by the amount but the historic value. First, even if the life-like statues could be fabricated, the genuine statues’ amount and their historic value remain the same as before. Furthermore, along with the life-like statue molds, the amount of these statues will enlarge, and distinguishing the genuine one from the fabricated one becomes more complicated. Then the genuine life-like statue value could increase accordingly if identified. Second, the discovery of the life-like statues’ molds has nothing to do with the miniature. For the reason that the number, the historic value would not change with the irrelevant discovery. Thus, the conclusion that the value of the miniature will decrease is very ridiculous. If the arguer could offer the information that the artist prizes the art by the quantity of them, I will acknowledge the argument partially.这一段的条例没有前两段清晰,amount 和 number前后似乎有重叠
In sum, the argument is unpersuasive and not sound as it stands. To solidify the argument, the arguer should provide assured evidence of the existence of the whole body life-like statue molds; the non-existence of the miniature molds and the statue sculpture tools. What's more, to better and clearer evaluate the argument, the arguer should offer information of the value scale of the art of the artist.
