Although non-mainstream areas, such as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal was inspelled by almost all science theories, they still become popular in 20th century when many areas of science was improved dramatically. I partly agreed the author’s claim that these non-mainstream areas play a vital role in society not only satisfy human nees but also be helpful human mainstream areas make progress.

Some so-called non-mainstream pursuits today may become mainstreat fields of science tomorrow. Some researches were not realized by people in their time, and researchers also cannot give exactly theory about their work, in these cases, these researches were thought as non-mainstream areas. Take alchemy炼金术 for example, at first, people engaged in alchemy just for live longer, healthier or even never die. However, people found much unbelievebal reaction during alchemy, when hundreds years passed alchemy become the base of chemistry. Let us look at another example, copernicus’ sun-centre system was thought as heterodoxy 异端邪说，absolutely non-mainstream areas. Nevertheless, as the development of human society, people with higher lever of realize ability and research methods, we find that sun-certre system of copernicus was truth and have greay meaning. All of these examples indicated that some non-mainstream areas were the base of mainstream, and they can bring dramatically influence to human society when they become important mainstream areas by a great many people’s effort for a quite long time.

Admittedly, non-mainstream areas meets human needs by providing psychics comfort for us. There are many problems that the mainstream sciences cannot explain and solve, which provide space for the non-mainstream pursuits. Non-mianstream areas have survived for thoursands years and still hold considerable influence over the masses. Mordorn sociece cannot provide exactly explanation for many mental problems, on contrast, some non-mainstream areas provide explanation by using vivid words. In this matter, people will believe that these non-mainstream, such as astrology, fortune-telling, can tell them the events will happen in future. Astrology and fortune-telling are thought be guided some mystery power invisible, masses pursuit this power for avoid the unfortunate events in future and they just interested in unknown power as it is the human nature. Faced with unwise choices, we feel emberrased and guilt and unwilling to afford these burden, so people resorted to these non-mainstream areas to release these bad feelings.
In sum, non-mainstream areas might help some people feel better about themselves, their choices.

However, these non-mainstream areas brought negtive influence to our society. People resorted to astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic most for ingnorance, which is the result of lacking of education. First, they allow people to dependent to these theory which are not rooted in reason. People will like to fail to face the truth and lack courage to afford the responsibility for their life. Moreover, some non-mainstream areas were relies on assumption by simple guess. In this matter, they are difinitely different fo out civilization and cultures and would lead some people who lacking of education do something stupid. In some small towns of China, people would like to believe the gods rather than doctors can save sick people. They just grayed to the god but give no medicine for disease, as a result, many people die of disease which can be cured easily by modern medicine.

In conclusion, although non-mainstream areas play a vital role in society because they were the base of modern mainstream society and meets humen needs in some extent. We still pose the critical opinions for these non-mainstream areas for their baseless and leading confusion.
