There is no doubt that science does play a most significant role in society. Advanced medical technology cure millions of people, highly improved transformational instruments enable us to move quite faster, magical development of computer science even completely change our life style. Meanwhile, we have to admit that some nonmainstream areas of inquiry, such as astrology, fortune-telling, and the like, also play a vital role. They offer us unbelievable huge satisfaction that mainstream science cannot afford.

To begin with, mainstream science does help us a lot, but it has a limitation. Although science has gained amazing advancment day by day, there are still series of mysteries that science cannot explain by now. Till today, nobody knows exactly whether ghosts and UFO truly exist or not, we have no idea why all these planets run their ways as what they do today, and of course, science can never give an explaination on why our lives become what they are now. Considering our human's huge natural curiosity, what we tend to do if science cannot help us in certain areas? Obviously, we can give answers ourselves, by the assistants of such nonmainstream areas as psychic and paranormal pursuits. In this way, at least we do not have to miseribly keep on searching for some truth that science nowadays is limited in researching, and wait until technology becomes strong enough to get to know the answer.

What is more, our human beings always have certain mental demand, which usually seems far beyond mainstream science's capability to satisfy. For example, science will never be able to tell you what would happen in your future life, while fortune-telling can give you an answer, even though for most time there is little scientific theory to support that and most of them may be totally wrong. Nevertheless, at least it meets some persons' psychological needs for predicting their future, or offer them an opportunity to enjoy a brand new interest. Actually, most people may not truly believe in those what fortune-teller or some astrological books say, they just make fun of these types of activities to get relaxed. Anyway, our lives are not just some precise researches, and some magical or romantic discoveries and theories are just like some nuts or icecream in a cake, making it more amazing.

However, I have to admit that these nonmainstream areas may often bring harmful consequences as well, rather than satisfying people's needs. Still take fortune-telling and astrology for example, if either game shows that you will have a good luck the next year, it of course will be fine. But if not, for example it is telling you that you will never get promoted, or it is not a good year for marriage, what will you do? Whether trust it or not, most people will similarly get frustrated or at least hold a bad feeling, and undeniably, most guys may genarally believe in those predictions when they meet some difficulties at work. Horribly, they may give up trying and making more efforts, since "these are their destiny", which will surely harm their careers and the development of society.

In sum, nonmainstream areas do help a lot by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science, but they are still own certain drawbacks as well. Be ware of those harmful aspects to prevent them from stopping our pace in advance, and give these areas approriate developing space, so that they will be able to serve our human beings better.
