Position: The non-mainstream areas of inquiry serves as a comforting agent that satisfy human needs that are not acquired by mainstream science. It exerts an important function to human’s sprit need. However, too much emphasis on such non-mainstream do harm for human beings.
1.       占星学包括。。。对人们的精神世界起了较大的作用。
2.       但是过分的强调迷信，会使人误入歧途。（法轮功）
3.       正因为迷信不能得到科学的解释，所以人们会去相信它。
The non-mainstream areas of inquiry serves as a comforting agent to satisfy human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science, it exerts an important function to human's spirit world. However, too much emphasis on the role of non-mainstream do harm for healthy development of human beings.

The non-mainstream, including astrology, fortune-telling, psychic, and paranormal pursuits and so forth, has several centuries' history. In China, the superstition was very popular in the ancient time, and now it still exists. Even though the science advances startlingly, this culture is so rooted that cannot easily disappear. There are many accounts come from the non-mainstream areas, for instance: the crow croaked ill omen, the magpie called good omen and so on.

Admittedly, the non-mainstream areas of inquiry meet certain human needs. In our daily life, we have always confronted multiple choices, some choices make us very confusing and dilemma The astrology and the fortune-telling can give us a "reason" to choose one, if we met failure, we may feel less responsible for the result and less sorrow. The non-mainstream pursuing is a balm to sorrow, when we regret our mistakes, we can get console and encouragement from it. When we continuously experience bad luck, we tend to rely on astrologer, fortune teller, certain cards for guidance.

However, too much emphasis on the non-mainstream areas of inquiry do harm for human's healthy development. People will live in an illusion, irrational, false appearance world that ignore the reality, which is vital to our life. For instance, a brutal event about over-superstition in China several years ago, one charlatan, who preached his superstition theory to people, entrap a large number of people participating his group, among these people, some reject eating and drinking believing they can become gods, some reject medicine cure believing god can cure them, and no things can be more crucial than people burned themselves with gas oil. One girl, who was studying in a university, burned her body and face but saved. We understood from that event that many university professions also participated into this activity. Therefore, we must reflect why did so many educated people make such ignorance mistakes? It is the limited science knowledge that makes some things cannot be clearly explained and confirmed, so it makes some vulnerable people to stick to their ridiculous beliefs.

In sum, with the development of science technology, many mysterious and perplex things are solved that make us more rational, more intelligent, and more judgment. If we are too dependent on the astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits, we will suffer from disasters and atrocities.
