Does education should focus on the interests and need of each students in order to be effective, as the speaker asserts? While I concede that concerning with the needs of each students is a necessary part of education, it is difficult to be attained. Most of all, through education, students should have enough abilities after graduation. Besides, the individual need and interest can not be neglected as well.

First of all, the purpose of education should be concerned, which determines what should be taught to students. For the nation, education is a indispensable access of conveying the culture from generation to generation, while for entire society, by virtue of education, large quantities of eligible citizens step into society from schools. As to individual students, it is education that prepares them with knowledge and abilities, such as communicating and cooperating, in order that they can survive the pressure and competition in the society. Meeting the purpose of education, students should learn the knowledge and abilities, no matter they are interested in them or not.

Furthermore, as to the need of students, it is difficult to judge an ability or knowledge is useful to a student or not. Consider a student of journalist, who may think that mathematics is of no use to them. However, when he/she wants to make a survey with credible evidence, the significance of math and the thought of experiment can be learned. If so, the students who have contacted with the knowledge which seems useless will work better and more easily. In short, knowledge and ability can not be judged useless. Some of the basic knowledge should be taught to students although they may think it is useless to them.

However, the ability and interests of students may affect the situation and speed of their learning. Some of the students study art well while some others learn biology quickly. Different interests and conditions determine the way and ability of students, going reverse which may be harmful to them. Consider Gauss, a talent of mathematics, who was interested in and showed great talent on math at an early age. If he was forced to study step by step as others, maybe he could not make contribution as much, instead, became a common person the same as others. In addition, concerning with different conditions of students can help them learn better according to the ability and demand of their own.

Although directing each students according their own ability may be a good way of education, it is hardly to be attained nowadays. The quantity and spirit of educators is limited, which can not be devoted to each of the students. Moreover, if the time is demanded to be better used, such as improving the quality of lessons or considering about the content of textbooks, it is hard to spare spirit to meet the need of all the students. That is one of the limit of the education today.

In conclusion, as to the purpose of education and ambiguity of utility of knowledge, each student should learn enough basic knowledge. At the meantime, the need and ability of each students cannot be neglected, although sometimes the schools do not have enough ability, it is still necessary. That is what should the educators and the entire society endeavored to do.
