In this argument, the author recommends that the dentists who advertise to attract patients should focus on the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients. To support his conclusion he cites the statistics and evidence from the dentists that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work.Careful inspection to his statistics and evidences ,however, exhibit his conclusion infested with flaws and drawbacks.
For one thing, there are insufficient information about the reasons of men's faintness while visiting the dentist. It is probably that the faintness is not contributed by the depression generating during the process.Perhaps it is the pain that leads to most of the people's unconciousness when the dental work is in operation. One can assume that men are more likely suffer from the server dental diseases and most of them are needed dental operation while for the women only the dental medicine are needed.Without ruling out these possibilities, the author can not convince us.
For another, the author oversimply gerneralize that the dentists only need emphasize the eddecitiveness of the anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of men patients. We can view this problem into two parts. One is that the author partially place emphasis on the men patients.Granted men are more likely to suffer from the dental process, the only concern on the men will definitely exclude the women customers for they must fear the unexpected pains and will complain about the impartiality.Another is that the author overlooks the other factors that will influence the business. One of the most important one is the quality of the recovery techniques other than the anesthetic ones.Obviously ,among those pay a visit to the dentist only few of them suffer the serious dental disease and are needed the dental operations and what they concern more is if they can soon recover from the disease.Price is also the major factor.Low and reasonable charge will absolutely appeal to a large amount of the patients to choose the dental clinic. What's more ,the advertisement must invole the service, too.A more harminous environment during the dental process will be another attractive reason. So the author should take these elements into consideration.
To sum up, the author fails to accout for his conclusion for his unsubstantial evidence. To make it logically reasonable ,the author must take other possible reason why there are more men will faint. What's more, he also need to evaluate his recommendation more thoroughly and focus on the most important influence.
