Should government place few restrictions on research and development of science? Some claim more while some reject any. As far as I am concerned, I believe the government should run scientific research and development in some degree, while the there should be enough freedom for the scientist. I will take on my analysis as follow.

The immoral science should be restricted by the government. For instance, some unmoral scientists do evil research on animals, which imposes agony on the animals and is opposed by the society. In fact, they would not stop to commit crimes until they are punishment and restricted by the government. So, the government is required to pay restrictions on such evil researches. In addition, the research of nuclear threatens the human and the planet may be ruined one day. There have been people on the earth suffered from nuclear and the aftereffect is beyond retrieve: there will not be any plants or even grass on the lands after the exploding of the nuclear warhead; the people there will suffer many kinds of illness induced by the ray of the radioelement left. Leaving the purpose of using the nuke, it is ruinous to use such weapons to the people whom are imposed it on. It is inhuman to make them take such suffering aftereffects. Such instance must be prohibited whatever the reason is.

Moreover, the government should lead the scientists to solve the most concernful problems. The funds of the science are not abundant for the scientists to research any project they interest in deeply enough while there are many vital problems waiting to be solved drastically. The conflict demands the government give more attention and funds to the critical problems. For instance, during SARS time, the most essential circs is to develop a medicine to treat the suffering people. If the government did not give the medical scientists more funds, they would not have sufficient money for the research. Only with the support of the government, such essential matters should be settled. So, the lead of the government is important.

However, there should be enough freedom for the development of science. There were many examples in history that the restriction of government held back the steps of science. One was to forbid Nicolaus Copernicus’s ideas about the celestial body. The government in that era inhibited his thought and the science was then held its steps back. The restriction of the science takes it such drawbacks. So, there should be enough freedom for the science to develop without obstacles.

As discussed above, the government should run the research and the development of science to forbid immoral researches and to solve the urgent problems while leaves enough freedom for it to develop quikly.
