Which gives society something of lasting value, artist or critic? The speaker claims that it is artist. I fundamentally agree with the author that people will find enjoyment in art and such value is long lasting in society. However, this kind of enjoyment is purification by critic from all kinds of arts.

First, it is art that make a society have fashion and enjoyment. The target of people who working for society is to make the society develop and make them being accepted by the society, however, this is not the only thing that people wish to get most. In most time, people will choose a way that will take them enjoyment when they living their life. In short, a man will choose smile while going his life. Take the young group of people for example, what they admire more is enjoyment but be educated. A survey made by my university shows that 75% more free time of college students are composed by Hip-hop and other ways of enjoyment rather than studying, that means to live with enjoyment is nature born choice of human being. So it does a great value that art for the life of people living in the society.

Further more, the enjoyment that the art gives to people is long lasting and it can be last for centuries. As I conclude just now, people know art and know how to get enjoyment in it, and of course, the art with great enjoyment will be conserved and continued by generations. Here is an example of classical music, which is widely created in the 18 century, however, it is not only in fashion during such short time but still be appreciate by people till now, neither war and time can bring the interest of people in it away. So the understanding of art changes little and the value of art is long lasting in the society.

However, not all making from artist are meaningful, which need to be choice by critic, and therefore something with real value will be remember by people. Critic will take the advantage and also disadvantage of art to people, and a more meaningful art will be picked out from common. All overseas Chinese know a song named Country Road Take Me Home by John Denver, which raises the memory of home land in the heart of overseas, and more than 30 years past the value of the song is still meaningful. However, many songs which are in fashion only in one moment can not hand down with criticize from people because they have less meaning for filling with the people's sprits. So only critic who can justify a art which is meaningful to people.

In sum, the artist is painter to make life colorful and meaningful, further more art makes the life of people valuable during enjoying it, yet the critics stand as a filter to art in order to rise more value from art.

思路还是清楚的,可是论证起来不是那么有针对性和有力
