TOPIC: ISSUE185 - "Scandals-whether in politics, academia, or other areas-can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."
WORDS: 449 TIME: 上午 12:45:00 DATE: 2007-3-2
In this issue the author advocates that scandals focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. I agree with the author for that scandals use almost every possible means that the speaker and reformer could ever imagine or dare to do.
To begin with, the scandals always come out suddenly and almost nobody could ever expected such a thing. For example, the family corruption case of the Taiwan's so-called President --Chen Shuibian, which has made this district nearly in a mess, comes out beyond everyone's imagination including the people concerned. This has caused an impressive effect about the politician's scandals, which their rivals could never be able to do that. But they person evolved in should have known that one day their illegal action would not be a secret. This indicates that it is easy for us to get the conclusion that scandals have more useful means than the formal ways to make a people's reputation in a bad situation.
Second, the scandals almost cannot find out the trouble makers, thus make the scandals more complex. Let us take the coming out of scandals as an example. Nearly all scandals come out suddenly by somebody's words or a secret exposure. Then instantly, a group of people have known this and continue to tell each other about this, but unfortunately, many people forget who tells them the scandals and thus make the scandals be non-source information. However, this is not the same as the speech or reform, they must have an action maker, and thus they cannot do bad things easily for they can be found for their names and deeds.
Last but not least, the scandals have a certain way of making one's reputation in a mess, but admittedly, it has several restrictions because of the informal ways of doing things. However, on the contrary, the speech or the reformers' action is almost formal and kept an eye on by the public, which could never be so out of one’s imagination. First, the credibility of the scandals is insufficient unless there is a evidence be exposed. Second, the informal ways of doing things make people look down upon the rumor makers, who may be considered to be a person of bad ethics. Third, the scandal creator would have to endure a latter life without friends because one's lack of loyalty to friends. Thus as mentioned above, though the scandal suffers from these weakpoints, it still have a place in the world.
In conclusion, the scandals have several advantages over the speakers' and the reformers' thus make the scandals have more powerful and impressive actions than the formal and restricted speech and reform. |
