ARGUMENT147 - The following appeared in an editorial in a business magazine.
"Although the sales of Whirlwind video games have declined over the past two years, a recent survey of video-game players suggests that this sales trend is about to be reversed. The survey asked video-game players what features they thought were most important in a video game. According to the survey, players prefer games that provide lifelike graphics, which require the most up-to-date computers. Whirlwind has just introduced several such games with an extensive advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old, the age-group most likely to play video games. It follows, then, that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months."

In this argument, the conclution endorsed by the author is  that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months.Adducting grounds to buttress this conclution, the arguer maintains that the sales trend is about to be reversed by a recent survey.In addition, the author further reasons that Whirlwind shoule advertise campaingn directed at people 10 to 25 years old.At first glance, the author's argument appears to be somewhat convincing, but further reflection reveals that it omits some important concerns that should be addressed to substantiate the argument.
Firstly, the argument rests on a gratuitous assumption that the declination of the video sales over the past two years attribute to the features of the games are not adapt to the interest of the players.However, the assumption is incomplete and unwarranted because of a lack evdience provided to support that a causal relationship does exist between the declination and the features of the games.As a matter of fact, many factor which may be responsible to the declination should be considered.Such as the price ,the depression and etc.Without these factors taken into account, it is unwise to assert like that.
secondly,the author fails to consider the supply of such video games.It is of great possibility that many other companies have already been marketing such type of videogame.In such circumstances, the Whirlwind may not increase its sales by changing its feature because of the market is full of games of perfect graphics before Whirlwind's product is designed out.Also the author overlooks that whether the players can afford these games or not.Obviously,the most up-to-date computers which is required for the games are not accessible to the common players but to those who make full use of these computers in researching.In addition,the question in the survey is concerning the most important features in the video game which did not make any sense.The most important features does not represent the feature that the player want to buy.
Finally,The arguer does not take other features that may also influence the overall quality of a game into account.Many factors are responsible for the quality of a game.Such as the scenario of the game.A game of poor scenario to some extent always disappoint the players even make the players pay little attention on the games from the same company.Alike the scenario, the music also play a important part in the quality.Games of graceful music in some cases always impress the players with a exquisite feelings which impel them to buy the games.
In a word, this argument, while seems well-supported at first, has several flaws discussed above. Hence it is unacceptable and of no persuasion as it stands. Yet, it could be substaniated by providing more solid evdience that the cause of the declination of sales and the true focus on the game of the players.Accordingly, only with more logical reasoning could this argument turn to be more than just an emotional appeal.
