I fundamentally agree with the speaker's broad assertion that the study of history which is relevant to our daily lives has value. Meanwhile, sometimes history which is not relevant to our daily lives also has value.

Firstly, in the individual level, events involving preeminent historical figures can provide us with experience in dealing with our personal lives. Albert Einstein, one of the most distinctive physicist, dared to question the Newton's law and later developed the theory of relativity. His story tells us that who does not always believe in authority is more likely to make important discoveries, especially in academia. When it comes to India's Gandhi and America's Martin Luther King, if there were not their efforts, India might still be the colony of Britain and African American might still sit in the back of the bus. Their affair tells us that personal integrity and insistent in one's own believes can help one succeed.

Secondly, in the societal level, historical events which are relevant to our daily lives can provide a nation with principles about how to develop a country. To understand this viewpoint, one needs to look no further than the Second World War and Fascist German. Adolf Hitler established a autocratic government and dreamed to dominant the whole world, but history proves that it is impossible. The Second World War ended with the completely fall of Fascist dictatorship. This event tells that everything which is opposite to human nature will inevitably fail. Anther compelling historical event is the breakup of Soviet Union, the essential reason of which is that the highly centralized state government has long ignored the individual freedom. It cautions every country that democracy and the needs of public are the crucial determinant to the steadiness of a country.

However, other historical events which are not relevant to our daily lives may also have value. Firstly, such events might be relevant to the daily lives in the future. For example, study the history of dinosaur might provide us with measures to prevent the extinction of other species, or the extinction of humankind. Before the results come out, none could definitely judge whether it has value. Secondly, such kind of history might be relevant to other disciplines and then be useful. Take the study of ancient people's life style for example. Obviously it has no direct relationship with contemporary people's daily lives. However, it plays an important role in the research of medical technology, which ultimately benefits us.

In sum, the speaker makes a fundamental correct assertion that history which is relevant to our daily lives has value. However, the speaker overlooks other circumstance that history without direct relationship to our daily lives would also have an oblique value.
