TOPIC: ISSUE144 - "It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value."

*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.

1.部分同意
2.艺术家带来持久的价值(以毕加索的鸽子为例)
3.许多评论家不负责任做评价
4.一些评论帮助公众理解作品,因而具有价值
5.总结

I strongly agree with the speaker that the artist gives society something of lasting value, for the reason that they create the priceless works to reflect the world or the inside view of one's mind. Thus, whether the critic brings society something of lasting value depends on to what extent, they understand the works.

To begin with, the artists make the precious works of art to society by observing the world and thinking about it for a long time. When they find something worthy to be recorded, they make a record of it in various ways, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc. To illustrate this point, here is a persuasive example of the famous painting----Dove, painted by the famous Spanish artist Picasso. He painted the picture in memory of a boy who died of flying doves in memory of his dead parents during the Second World War. The Dove, a symbol of peace, calls for stopping the world wide war. After all these years, the painting itself has become a symbol of peace, and priceless nowadays. To sum up, the artist brings the world great works to be memorized and of permanent value.

Leading even more credence to the statement is that many critics overestimate or underestimate newly created works without thinking much. Without getting enough information about the work, many of them give evaluation hastily and are lacking responsibility for their evaluation. Frequently, when a new film or novel comes up, many critics cannot help commending, and make a number of hasty evaluation, whether cogent or digressive, afraid that they will lose the opportunities’ to catch the public's attention. In that case, their recommendation is valueless, fraught with oversimplified thinking, and that kind of thing will soon disappear from public’s sight. Therefore, those critics will not bring some valuable thing to society.

However, even it is true that many critics commend without thoughtful consideration, but in some case, the critics help people understand the work better. For instance, when an abstract painting comes out, ordinary people will never understand what is behind the painting. With the help of critics, ordinary people will have the chance to know the background of the painting and better understand the work. Even more, some really good critics will compare the work with other artists' and make a concrete introduction of the painting, from painting skills to the meaning of the painting. To do this, the critic has to read many references related to this sort of painting and does some research on the painting's background. In conclusion, some responsible critics will evaluate the work objective and make the public fathom what they cannot understand with more information and knowledge. These critics give society something of lasting value.

Accordingly, the great artists bring some really precious work to society, while critics' commendation varied, depending on whether they do a lot of research on the work.

I strongly(个人觉得你没有完全同意作者的看法。你认为评论家的负责任的评价是有价值的。) agree with the speaker that the artist gives society something of lasting value, for the reason that they create the priceless works to reflect the world or the inside view of one's mind. Thus(个人认为此处thus 用得不当,两者没有因果关系,是并列), whether the critic brings society something of lasting value depends on to what extent, they understand the works.

To begin with, the artists make the precious works of art to society by observing the world and thinking about it for a long time. After all these years, the painting itself has become a symbol of peace, and priceless nowadays(这个例子写得太过叙述化了??). To sum up, the artist brings the world great works to be memorized and of permanent value.

整篇文章结构很好,逻辑性也很强。每个论点都得到了充分的发展。
和你看我作文的时候说的有点相似的是:这篇文章里是分别阐述了艺术家和评论家的作用,没有太多比较??我也不知道该怎么写的??
