As there was an old saying given by the greatest and sensible oracle of ancient China—Confucius, “To teach a person according to his quality and gift.” Undoubtedly, each student has his or her own character and interest, in which case, it is important to find a particular way and series of courses to provide for each student. I fundamentally agree with the speakers assertion that the most effective education is to provide individual-interested courses to different students on the condition that certain courses must be taken.

There is no doubt that every student no matter how clever or how adapted he is in some special area, it is necessary and compulsory for him to obtain some basic knowledge which is useful and important in one’s growth and development, including science of fundamental mathematics, algebra, language, biology, geography and so forth. A student without these common conscience will hardly get comprehensive development and actual success. Some experience of the genius showing astonishing gift in some area or subject lends supportive evidence on this. There are many very excellent and clever children who have the higher level of intellect and interest in some science such as math, physics and arts, enter a higher degree of education such as college and university at a young age. However, having the sufficient ability in the academic area, these children lacks adequate properties of emotion quality, the factor that we called EQ, and consequently can’t deal well with the personal affairs and often feel confused when they communicate with their classmates, which reflect a deficiency of the narrow education only cultivate students according to their interests and gifts.

If a student have received basic and elementary knowledge and education that one should take, it is a good choice to give him or her a student-centered education, for it proves more effective that teacher-center education to inspire the student’s interest to study and increase their ability.
No one can get progress and success if he has no interest about the knowledge he learns. As the number of students today are expansive and it is difficult for a teacher to know enough about every student’s interest and gift of the class, there are many disadvantages of the teacher-centered education. If a teacher misunderstand a student’s interest and thought, it might even cause a destruction to a talent. For example, the most famous inventor—Thomas Edison, who brought light to human beings, was regarded as a most foolish and awkward student when he went to school. The teacher couldn’t understand the numerous curiosities from this tiny boy, and asserted that he was too fool. Nevertheless, the sensible teacher, who also give Edison’s life, his mother, knew the real quality of his son and took him out of school cultivating him in a special way offering him sufficient room to conceive imagination and work out experiment, which led the most greatest inventor who resulted in many big progress of the human society later. Therefore, it is very important to educate students considering their qualities and desires.

In modern society, this theory plays an important role in education. As there are full of fierce competitions in the current society, the experts and special skilled talents are in dramatically demands. What’s more, there are so many methods that one can get success not only depending a common traditional way. A reform of education ways in my school when I was a junior middle school student proved to be success to cultivate students in different ways. The president suggested that all students should be developed and educated according to their gifts and qualities and only conforming the stable procedure to go to a senior high school and then a college or university. By this means, many of my classmates who were not good at study found the most proper way suitable themselves and achieve an success. Thus, the student-centered education can change one’s life and offer much more opportunities to success in various ways.

However, when giving the student-centered education, the teachers should keep a sensible oversee to avoid excessive such education, which would results unbalanced development or malformed character in students.

As I have mentioned above, the student-centered education is very important to offer more qualified talents to the society in the premise of carrying it in a proper way. Moreover, some indispensible courses and knowledge shouldn’t be neglected and cancelled at the same time.
