TOPIC: ISSUE83 - "Government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state, even though these areas are often extremely remote and thus accessible to only a few people."
WORDS: 505

1,保护边远的公共地是政府的职责。
2,保护边远的地区可以保护大量濒危动物。
3,保护边远地区还可以对全球环境有所影响。

Should the government preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state, even if the extremely remote ones? The speaker claims so, and I agree to that since it is the government's obligation and the preservation of wilderness areas is significant to the environment.

As I see it, the government is obliged to preserve publicly owned wilderness area for the following reasons. Firstly, publicly owned wilderness area means that it did not belong to any private individuals, and they will not have the incentive to preserve. In many undeveloped countries, the governments do not pay enough attention to the publicly owned areas, which partly results in the destruction of those areas. Secondly, the government has the power to impose taxes, so it is possible to get enough money, and the public may feel it is fair to pay for the preservation in the form of tax compare to not sharing the bill.

Further more, other than the obligations, it is necessary for the government to preserve the wilderness areas since that many extinct species might live there. Nearly unaffected by humans, who seldom go to the wilderness areas, there is usually a great amount of extinct species. To maintain the biologic chain, protecting the variety of species is significant nowadays, since the damage in biologic chain may results in the destruction in the natural environment. The Australian has paid a lot for the extinction of thylacine, though it is eradicated by human beings, we can conclude that to protect the variety of species is to protect the ecological balance of the environment. Besides that, many potential values of species, such as the variety of genes and the use for medicine, have not been discovered, so it is unwise not to protect them. Yuan Longpin would not succeed in hybrid the rice if he did not find the special variety of rice.

Even though these areas are often extremely remote and thus accessible to only a few people, it is still important to preserve the wilderness areas for the reason that the global environment can not be divided, and the environmental change in one area can bring changes to another place even very far away. Climate change, partly caused by the deforestation in African rainforest, has influence not only the African countries but the whole world: some birds change their path of migration for the changes in coastline, some low-altitude areas will probably be under the sea decades later for theiceberg melting, so that some species might suffer a sharply diminution in amount. The ecological balance in the world has been damaged for not preserving the wilderness areas. Therefore, unless there is enough attention paid to the wilderness areas, the environmental problems are unlikely to be solved efficiently and markedly.

Accordingly, even though these areas are remote and accessible to only a few people, preserving the publicly owned wilderness areas is vital to the environment and also the obligation of the government, because of the necessity of protecting the variety of species and global environment.
